Dara Maclean - Wanted (2013) biography and history
History ::
Few artists combine musical depth and the uplifting realities of a life in Christ as well as Dara Maclean. Hers is a joyful mix of pop idioms and eternal truths, danceable beats and the good news.

"I love making music you can move and groove to," she says, "but at the same time, as Christian artists we have a responsibility to speak the truth of the finished work of Christ in love."

A singer of incredible grace, power and control as well as a gifted songwriter, Dara has put together with Dove Award-winning producer Ian Eskelin a debut CD, You Got My Attention, as fresh and vibrant as any in recent years. Just 25, she has forged a sound rooted in the ’70s Motown, funk and soul her parents loved and filtered through a thoroughly contemporary urban pop lens.

Its first single, “Suitcases,” is a beat-driven track with an alternately intimate and soaring vocal celebrating true release from "your burdens, heavy like gravity."

"I want to paint a picture of God's complete restorative love and how through Christ we can experience true freedom," she says. "My parents and I minister together as a family and during one service my dad said, ‘You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases.’ I’ll never forget it. This song is my encouragement to us all to let go of the baggage of the past.”

“Suitcases” provides a first glimpse into an album that displays a range of influences and a lyrical and melodic flair rare in a young artist. You Got My Attention ranges from the soft intimacy of “Had To Be You” to the soaring finale of “Unreachable,” from the classic ‘70s feel of “So Good To Me” to the symphonic resonance of the album’s closer, “Home.”

“There are tracks like ‘You Got My Attention’ and ‘Nothin’ You Won’t Do’ that express my love of Motown and funk,” says Dara, and there is “What Love Looks Like,” a warm and lovely excursion into the heart of love, with acoustic instrumentation and scintillating harmonies. Harmonies soar again in “Free,” which celebrates the strength and liberation possible in God’s love, while “Yours Forever” showcases the sheer vocal expressiveness Dara possesses.

She has found the perfect studio partner in producer Eskelin. “Ian knows the filter everything needs to go through,” she says. “It has to be soulful and reflect my love for R&B but still be contemporary. It’s about taking the listener on an interesting journey without wandering too far off the road.”

Within those parameters, Dara has found just the right setting for her vision.

“My message, my purpose,” she says, “is to express the heart of God for His kids. Then, I want the record to reflect what I want the live show experience to be like. We’ll dance, we’ll groove, we’ll have fun.

Though her message is undiluted, her touch is light and the music celebratory—and universal.

“I wanted the accessibility that great Motown music had,” she says. “That and the great 70s soul and R&B music transcended barriers. It was never about one group or one audience. It just spoke to people.”

The lessons of a lifetime spent combining music and ministry has enabled Dara to do craft a highly individual style as compellingly as anyone on the present scene.

Dara grew up outside Fort Worth, Texas, in a family that encouraged her love for music and for the Lord from her earliest days. She was just 13 when she began leading worship and singing in church. She credits The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill with "helping me discover who I wanted to be as an artist. I remember talking to my mom and dad about how she was quoting scripture in her lyrics in such a unique way. I just loved it. Not long after that, I started playing guitar and diving into writing for myself."

Influenced as well by contemporaries like Adele, Natasha Bedingfield, Ray LaMontagne, John Legend and Marc Broussard, she has honed a sound that captures the joy and exuberance of being swept up in God's love. It is an approach she comes by honestly.

"I grew up singing, dancing and acting, and it's been in the church world," she says. "Music has always equaled ministry to me. Ministering to the broken, unloved and discouraged and ultimately showing people God's better way is what's in my heart. It's how I'm wired.”

While her technical skill shines through, it is her individuality that shines through.“I did take voice lessons,” she says, “but I did not go to school for music. Part of the story is not being polished and perfectly educated. My records represent my personal journey through music.”

In school, Dara was part of a singing group that traveled widely, performing everywhere from churches to conferences to the Superdome. When she graduated at 18, she “dove into music and ministry. It’s what I felt like I was supposed to do.” Discovered by label/publishing executive Susan Riley, she earned a publishing deal before landing her recording contract. Throughout, she has never compromised the message she expresses in music.

“As an artist and a Christian my responsibility is not to give half the pie. When we represent something, it’s the whole, complete message of redemption.” The sheer exuberance of her music assures her effectiveness in carrying that message. “I’m hearing from people that it’s a brand new sound, that it’s refreshing,” she says. “It makes me feel in my heart like I’m hitting the mark. I feel like we have the right people involved, like it’s the right mix and that we’re headed in the right direction.”

Meredith Andrews - Behold The Savior (2013) Biography and History
Biography ::
At its very essence worship is an invitation. Whether it’s a church congregation on a Sunday morning or a solitary soul reaching up to God in a moment of personal praise, worship is inviting God’s presence into our lives so we can celebrate His glory. That’s why “The Invitation” is such a fitting title for singer/songwriter Meredith Andrews debut on Word Records.

Beneath her youthful exterior and fresh-faced exuberance, Andrews is a focused artist who knows exactly what she wants to say. She creates music that serves as a personal conduit for those seeking to worship God, and she also wants to remind others of God’s desire to reach them. “God is extending an invitation to you, to you personally, calling you by name,” she says. “He knows where you’ve been and he knows your background. He knows your family situation. He knows the things you struggle with, but he’s calling you by name and he’s inviting you to come in and to meet with him and to know him.”

Andrews shares that theme on her debut album with a well-crafted set of songs that are musically inventive and lyrically challenging. It’s a potent combination that is garnering Andrews enthusiastic support. Even before “The Invitation” hit store shelves, Andrews was tapped to open Aaron Shust’s spring tour. In Billboard magazine’s yearly “Faces to Watch” feature, she was singled out as Christian music’s most promising new artist.

Andrews felt the call into music ministry very early in life. Growing up in Wilson, NC, she started singing in church when she was only six-years-old. “I remember the first song I ever sang in church was ‘I Love You Lord,’” she recalls. “Then me and my mom would go around to other churches in our area and sing Southern Gospel music.”

Andrews’ childhood love of music matured into a desire to lead worship. She learned to play piano, began writing songs and during her high school years, she began leading worship at her church. On Saturday nights, young people from all over the area would converge. “That youth group thing we had on Saturday nights was called the Potters House and it was one of the most influential things in my life,” she says. “I learned what it really means to worship the Lord. I’ll never forget that time in my life. It was just so powerful. All the kids that would come were just so hungry for the Lord and we would worship for an hour and then my youth pastor would speak and then we’d worship for another hour or more. I remember there would be nights that the power of the Lord was so strong that I’d be under my keyboard playing because I just couldn’t stand. I couldn’t stand anymore, just being so humbled and in the presence of the Lord. It was powerful and I will never forget that.”

Andrews attended Liberty University where she majored in family and child development, and planned on working in an orphanage after graduation. She was born an only child, but her parents provided homes for many foster children. “We had about 20 kids come through our home in a period of about 10 years,” she recalls. “We ended up adopting three of the boys. They are my brothers now. I forget they are adopted.”

Seeing the impact her parents and their faith had on other children was an inspiration to Meredith and she had planned on a life of service, working to help children. However, during her junior year at Liberty, God revealed His plan for her life. “It was an amazing time of worship,” Andrews says. “Looking out at the student body with their hands in the air, you could tell that the presence of the Lord was so sweet in that place. It was like the Lord just dropped something into my spirit saying ‘This is it. This is it! This is what I called you to do.’ I remember thinking, ‘This is the thing that makes me feel most alive.’ It is also the thing that I feel like the Lord takes the most delight in and I feel closest to him when I’m doing it. That doesn’t necessarily mean being in an arena leading worship, it also means when I’m behind closed doors. Private worship must precede public worship. If what I’m doing on stage isn’t first birthed behind closed doors, then it’s inauthentic. I can’t take people where I haven’t been with the Lord.”

While leading worship at Liberty, a pastor from Chicago’s 12,000 member Harvest Bible Chapel heard her and recruited Andrews to join his worship team. “I went up there in April 2005, which was a month before I graduated from Liberty,” Andrews recalls. “They let me sing with the worship team and I just remember thinking this is a place where I can really grow and that night, they offered me a job.”

Just as God led Andrews to Liberty University then on to Harvest Bible Chapel, he opened doors in Nashville that led her to sign with Word Records. “I wasn’t really looking for a record deal. It just fell in my lap,” says Andrews. “I’m so humbled by it all. It’s obvious that it’s the Lord’s hand and not my own.”

Andrews wrote or co-wrote every song on “The Invitation.” Produced by Jason Ingram, the project not only showcases Andrews’ skills as a songwriter, but her engaging vocals as well. She has a clear, pure voice that draws the listener into her songs and points them to the heavenly father. The opening track, “You Invite Me In,” reminds us all that God’s arms are always open to us. It’s a message that also resonates powerfully on the stunning ballad “You’re Not Alone.”

“Deeper” is another compelling ballad that finds Andrews longing to delve more completely into a relationship with God. In a voice that is hauntingly vulnerable, she shares her heart in a poignant lyric that other believers will readily relate to on an intimate level. It’s that ability to be so transparent in her writing and her delivery of these songs that invites others in.

“When we were in the studio recording, I remember listening to Jacob, my fiancé,’ playing piano on ‘The River’ and there was the element about God inviting us in there in that song as well as ‘Invite Me In’ and ‘Lift Up Your Head.’ That theme runs through all of the songs, but as he was playing this song and I was sitting at this table, all of a sudden it just hit me, ‘The Invitation!’ That’s what the album should be called!”

Though Andrews’ music ministry is poised to impact a national audience with the release of “The Invitation,” she continues serve where she feels God has planted her—leading worship at Harvest Bible Chapel. Additionally, her desire to help underprivileged children has never waned and she’s established Meredith Andrews Ministries to aid orphans and children in need.
Meredith Andrews has seen the impact music can have on people’s lives, but it’s not her agenda she wants to share. Her songs are laced with scripture because of her passion for sharing the word of God. “I never want to write songs just to write songs. I always want them to be about conveying the heart of God to people, whether they are people who walk with the Lord or people who don’t walk with the Lord,” she says. “I think the best way to do that is to do it through His word. I always want my songs to be infused with the word of God because if it’s my words, it’s null and void. What do I have to say to people that is going to change their lives? Nothing! But if it comes from the Lord, it’s that’s what’s going to change them.”

7eventhtimedown--Just-Say-Jesus-2013-Biography-and-history
History ::
The best songs are those that are heard when we need them most—the ones that become lifelines of truth in the midst of uncertainty. Enter “Just Say Jesus,” the powerful title track and lead single from 7eventh Time Down’s sophomore album.

A little boy hears the song after losing a friend in a biking accident and asks his mom if it was written about the tragedy. A mother and father mourn the one-year anniversary of the death of their daughters, and the song helps them through the tear-filled day. A grown man who lost his father is comforted by the song in the wake of childhood memories.

One song, three very different scenarios.

“It’s way bigger than we are as a band. It’s way bigger than we could’ve hoped for because God’s using it,” offers lead singer Mikey Howard of the single’s resonance. The constant stream of stories from fans remind all four band members—Howard (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Cliff Williams (bass), Eric Van Zant (lead guitar) and Austin Miller (drums)—of the power of a song to impact lives. For the Kentucky-bred foursome who grew up playing music together, it’s a privilege to get to steward this song, as well as the others on their new release.

Their second full-length project on BEC Recordings finds the band sharing some narratives of their own on Just Say Jesus. “There’s a story told in each song,” Williams explains. “We write about living and what inspires us because Christians are real people. As believers, God will inspire you. It’s going to be the biggest part of who you are. That doesn’t mean at times you’re not going to write a song that’s reflective of who you used to be. We’re just southern dudes who’ve got dirty pasts just like all the other people who have come to know God.”

The longtime friends are quick to admit that while brokenness is a part of every believer’s life, it’s important to not remain in a place of guilt and shame. The band isn’t interested in pity parties. Instead, they choose to celebrate redemption through their music. “We only touch on a little bit of the brokenness because we feel like that part of our story is the smallest part,” Howard shares. “We focus on what God has done in us through His son Jesus and the cross… We quickly get to the bigger part of the story, the resurrection part, and that’s what our focus is as a ministry—life, resurrection, joy.”

“There’s a lot of hope in this record,” Van Zant adds. He’s quick to acknowledge the power in the simplicity of the new album’s title: “The name of Jesus, nothing trumps that. That’s it. Nothing trumps the name of Jesus ever.”

While every bit as loud and hook-laden as their 2011 debut, Just Say Jesus is a more aggressive, focused and cohesive effort. All four members co-wrote the majority of the 10 tracks, while also lyrically collaborating with respected songwriters Ian Eskelin, Jeff Pardo and Tony Wood. Eskelin (Stellar Kart, Hawk Nelson) produced two of the tracks, while Howard produced the additional eight—a daunting, yet rewarding task for the front man. “It was a great experience. I learned so much,” Howard says. “I had [some producer friends] on speed dial, and if I had questions, I would call them, and they just really sewed into me as a producer and as a writer and just helped me hone in on the craft.”

Ironically, the majority of the album was cut in Howard’s basement studio in Mount Vernon, Ky., the same basement of his childhood home where the band recorded their first song when they were young teens.

Songs like the anthemic “Hurricanes,” the blazing “Renegade” and the iconic “Religious and Famous” provide a sonic assault to the senses, while lyrically radiating a clear message of truth. Miller hopes listeners will find their voice amidst the songs. “As Christians, a lot of times, we get caught up in how to word [our] prayers,” he says, “or you feel like you have to be really philosophical in everything you do, but in reality the Gospel’s simple, and it’s true.”

The second time around, every note and lyric is etched with intentionality. The up-tempo “One I’m Running To” harbors a melody line that sets the pace of racing toward God as the title implies. “This song is about those moments where you have a really big choice to let the weight of life totally crush you...or in spite of that, in that moment making the choice to run toward Christ as fast as you can because you know He’s the only way out, those moments when we choose Christ above all else,” Howard reflects.

For 7eventh Time Down, every song is an opportunity for ministry. The band has toured with a long list of impressive artists, including Newsboys, for King & Country, KJ-52, Manafest, Fireflight and Stellar Kart, among others, and was recently a featured artist on Air 1’s popular “Club Awesome Tour.” Logging nearly 100 shows a year, the band members are true road warriors, carrying full production for their live shows since their earliest days together, handling everything from sound and lighting to stage set-up themselves.

In an effort to expand their ministry beyond their music, the band partners with CURE International, a non-profit that operates hospitals and programs in 27 countries worldwide where patients receive surgical treatment and have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. During the “Club Awesome Tour” alone, more than 38 surgeries were funded.

“It’s literally what Jesus did. He showed up in town; He taught them, and then He healed the sick. He healed them and they received Christ,” Williams observes. “That’s what’s happening with CURE International. They’re going and performing surgeries, healing afflictions and sharing the love of God.”

Whether it’s through a radio single, a tour or their work with CURE International, 7eventh Time Down desires to carry the banner that the God they serve is bigger than any circumstance, any hurt or any music career. Howard aptly sums up the heart of their message as a band: “We just want to gently remind people that no matter what kind of junk you’re carrying around, Jesus is enough.”

Skillet--Rise-2013-Biography-and-History
History ::
Skillet recently made headlines when their last album, Awake, became one of just three rock albums to be certified platinum in 2012, forming an improbable triumvirate with the Black Keys’ El Camino and Mumford & Sons’ Babel. The news that Skillet had sold more than a million albums in the U.S. came as a shock to all but the band’s wildly diverse horde of fans, male and female, young and old—known as Panheads—whose still-swelling ranks now officially number in the seven-digit range. This remarkable achievement was announced just as Skillet was putting the finishing touches on their eagerly awaited follow-up album, Rise (Atlantic/Word).

Unwilling to stand pat or rest on their laurels, the band—lead vocalist/bassist John Cooper, guitarist/keyboardist Korey Cooper (John’s wife), drummer/duet partner Jen Ledger and lead guitarist Seth Morrison, making his first appearance on record with Skillet—continue to explore new terrain on Rise, expertly produced by Howard Benson, who previously helmed the mega-successful Awake. Eager for new challenges, Cooper threw himself into collaborative songwriting to a far greater degree than ever before, co-writing the uplifting title song and the lacerating first single “Sick of it” with Scott Stevens, founder/leader of the L.A.-based Exies, while teaming with Nashville songsmiths Tom Douglas and Zac Maloy on the timely and anthemic “American Noise,” which Cooper considers to be the strongest song Skillet has yet recorded. On “American Noise” and the joyous “Good to Be Alive,” the band explores new stylistic territory, bringing an element of heartland rock into their aggressive, theatrical approach. The band expanded their musical palette, integrating natural, acoustic instruments like accordion, mandolin, dulcimer, harp, tympani and bells to their trademark slashing electric guitars, strings, churning synths and pummeling drums.

It isn’t just the songs themselves that make Rise so gripping, it’s also the song sequences—like the radical contrast between the almost unbearable tension of “Sick of It” suddenly giving way to the ecstatic release of “Good to Be Alive,” or the way the closing three-song progression of “My Religion,” “Hard to Find” and “What I Believe” builds to a thrilling musical, thematic and emotional crescendo. Clearly, these songs and the album as a whole are embedded with an impassioned overarching message. This message courses with a tidal pull through Skillet’s entire body of work, but on Rise, it’s artfully woven into a gripping coming-of-age narrative. This sprawling work stands as the band’s first concept album—though it wasn’t premeditated.

“The narrative idea happened after we had 10 or 11 of the songs chosen,” Cooper reveals. “As we were recording them, we started to realize that there’s something going on here—this album is really telling a story. Realizing that, I knew we needed to make it as powerful as we could.” The result is a wildly ambitious work as heady as it is visceral.

“Rise is the story of a typical American teen coming into adulthood and facing the massive world problems,” says Cooper, who is deeply concerned about the erosion of belief in young people today, as well as their deeply felt desire to belong. “Facing world problems as an adult is different from when you’re growing up and under someone else’s care. All of a sudden, you realize that the world is a dangerous place. It’s dark and scary, there’s acts of God happening, there’s war, there are all these terrible things, and you thinking, ‘How can I have hope in this place?’ But at the same time, you also think, ‘Even moving all those huge problems aside, I look at my own life and I’m not even comfortable with the things I can change. I’m fighting with my parents, my parents have split up, I’m here in this home getting yelled at all the time that I’m never gonna be good enough, and I’m starting to believe that I’m never gonna be good enough. I constantly fail myself, and I just want to have a reason to live. I want to matter, and I want to know that my life counts for something.’ “

“So the story is basically about rising up out of your downtrodden life, rising up from that place where you feel like a failure, rising up to be comfortable being yourself, to stand up for what you believe in,” Cooper continues. “It’s not about pleasing your friends, it’s not about doing what’s cool; it’s about being who you are and being comfortable with that. And lastly, in the grand scheme of it all is, if I can be somebody I am comfortable being, maybe I can even rise up and help change the world. Can one person make a difference? Can one person actually matter?”

But there’s another key distinction between Rise and the band’s previous albums. “We've written songs about issues, but the reason this record stands out so much to me is that this is the first time that we're singing songs that use the word ‘we’ rather than ‘me,’” Cooper points out. “It’s not just my feelings, these are our feelings. We can do this. Even the title track is not about me rising, it’s about us rising. So this record feels inclusive of all kinds of people, and that’s unique for us. It’s a rallying cry.”

On Rise, then, the message is both spiritual and social, as Skillet reaches out anew to its ever-growing, ever-changing following. “I think music should be bringing people together and bringing them hope,” says Cooper. “That’s what music does for me.”

The-City-Harmonic--Heart-2013-Biography-and-History
History ::
2011 Breakout Artist of the Year The City Harmonic barreled its way from Hamilton, Ontario, Canada onto the music scene with Introducing The City Harmonic, an EP featuring “Manifesto,” which soared to No. 5 on iTunes and captivated over a million viewers on YouTube. Top that with becoming the best selling new artist on Billboard’s Top Current Digital Sales Chart (over 80K downloads), and it’s enough, among life’s crazy distractions, to get your attention.

But this band—vocalist/songwriter and pianist Elias Dummer, bassist Eric Fusilier, guitarist Aaron Powell and drummer Josh Vanderlaan— isn’t content to feed the machine or build a fan base so much as to build upon a dream. And not a dream as in a fairy tale. But THE Dream. These four guys grapple with the tension of this world, crafting it into anthems of longing, hope, and love—songs of light for ‘seeing through a glass darkly.’ The City Harmonic makes music that makes you reconsider what you really believe... about yourself, your world and your God.

Launching Oct 18th, The City Harmonic’s Kingsway release, I HAVE A DREAM (IT FEELS LIKE HOME), is one of the most anticipated full-length imports in decades. Co-produced by the band with Jared Fox, I HAVE A DREAM (IT FEELS LIKE HOME) is a journey of imagination, cinematic in composition, and, as is signature for the band, a definitive reflection of The City Harmonic’s organic, communal aesthetic. Intelligent, deeply spiritual and intrinsically ‘real life,’ it reveals the poetic art of The City Harmonic, a band bent on living today for the world to come.

“This project for us was like a journey through a lot of intertwining things,” Elias Dummer says of the band’s full-length debut. “At its heart is the overarching theme of brokenness and redemption, of light and dark, the unveiling of something bigger and better than ourselves.”

The title track and first single, which was written even before the songs on the EP, has always been the lynchpin on which the full-length record would hinge. “The dream, like Martin Luther King’s, is that there is another way,” Elias explains, “that it can be what we say it is, the eventual truth that we will awaken, just as Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz awakened from her dream, to find ourselves home at last.”

Like a roadmap with only one route, to sum up the journey of faith and mystery that is I HAVE A DREAM (IT FEELS LIKE HOME) would seemingly deprive the listener of the essence of the experience. But from the opening notes, a deliberate quest unfolds.

Setting the stage for the project as a whole, with ties to John 17, the piano-pounding “Yours” flies in the face of our consumer-driven society, an anthem of surrender that points toward the tension of living in this world as a Christian, while “Spark” introduces the theme of light, hinting at its transforming power:

Could a spark of Your love light the whole Church on fire?
When we care for our neighbour more than we care for style?

“Being a Christian now is more difficult than it was 200 years ago,” Elias says of the thematic trail. “We face tragedy at every turn because of the way our media and culture operates. The stories of this world have let us down. Politics have let us down. We try to cope with it by becoming apathetic or by hiding in the Christian bubble—some altered version of the American dream where living for Christ leads to personal comfort— even misguided Christian stories can let us down and this is the tension of the world we live in. Christianity isn’t a tool to escape suffering, it’s a lens by which we understand it and the means by which we live through it. Our culture is built on the notion that our spirituality can be compartmentalized but, simply put, the Christian story isn’t. We can go from mountaintop to valley in the span of a day, and in the midst of that valley Christ calls us to love our neighbors, our enemies, just as if we were with them on the mountaintop. Apathy may be a natural result of today’s broken world, but the Christian story is that Christ is redeeming his creation and we have a role to play as the body of Christ.”

Inspired by the story of Transfiguration in Matthew 17 and by Martin Luther King’s iconic speech, “Mountaintop” asserts the notion that as ambassadors here, citizens of a Kingdom to come, we are meant to live and love among the ruins. “Jesus talks about countercultural ways of living among the least of these,” Elias continues. “It’s not glamorous. It’s hard work. If we boil it all down to what exists in church, ultimately, we make being a churchgoer a poor substitute for being Jesus in our communities or even engaging our communities at all.”

“Some of the most powerful moments where I recognize God’s presence in a real way have been completely outside the church worship context,” adds Eric. ”We’ve had to grow up out of the default cultural Christian mindset of worship, instead responding to wherever you sense God, which truthfully is everywhere.”

I HAVE A DREAM builds from “Mountaintop” with “Fell Apart,” “Be Still O My Soul” and “Wake Me Up,” pointing to the reality of God in our dark nights of the soul; the light of his presence when we ache for ‘something real in a world of fake.’

Layer by layer, I HAVE A DREAM (IT FEELS LIKE HOME) builds toward the title track, a soaring, melodic anthem that sings the hope of heaven imprinted on our hearts before the foundation of the world. From the romantic interlude “Le Reve,” meaning ‘the dream,’ each song intertwines with another, painting an irresistible picture of grace at work through us. The City Harmonic’s interpretation of I Corinthians 13, “Love” forms a bridge into “Holy (Wedding Day),” a beautiful ballad about the ultimate redemption, the glorious day to come when faith becomes sight. All that remains, besides the bonus version of “Manifesto,” is the heartfelt “Benediction,” which just might be the perfect farewell for any communal act of worship.

Live like you mean it Sing like you’re living for God

Whether in full-on pop explosion or in ethereal ballad, the songs of The City Harmonic connect to that missing piece in all of us and give us cause and permission to sing out. Which frankly is part of the band’s DNA.

That much will never change for The City Harmonic, the curiously captivating sing-along nature of the music they make. It was, and is always, birthed with community expression in mind.

“Music engages us emotionally and intellectually,” says Elias. “There are universal signs of God’s presence in every part of it. ... it’s like a glimpse of something bigger than ourselves, some pervasive and yet otherworldly dream. And if we can somehow spark in people that dream, something they just can't shake, then I hope that will inspire them to sing like every word matters, to live like every day matters, and having tasted heaven, they’ll get on with helping this world feel more like home.”
