History ::
With Luke Dowler what you see is what you get, and what you get, is presence. At 6 foot 6 inches tall, it is hard to fit Luke into any pre-made mold of artistry. Known as an engaging performer and versatile songwriter Luke brings a unique combination of soulful authenticity fused with memorable pop hooks.

From living on the pacific coasts of japan and monterrey CA, to the hustle of Washington DC and midwest cities like St Louis to the open skies of Montana; growing up the son of a marine, brought many transitions and many opportunities for Luke. With so many influences and inspiration to draw from, you can almost hear the sweeping sounds of the Pacific in his lyrics and the honest, wide expanse of the Rocky Mountains in his melodies.

As a songwriter Luke continues to push forward into new territories from where he started. From a front man for a ska-punk band, moving to fronting a 4-piece indie rock band, touring internationally, sharing the stage with nationally known bands and playing for crowds of up to 8,000. But where songwriting and styles have evolved, in his music there remains a combination of honesty and a wide open feel that ties his music together. Most recently he has also emerged as a strong solo artist bringing an inventive perspective to his soulful acoustic set using multi layered rhythms and melodies. Even with one guitar the songs feel huge and carry you along.

No matter the venue or the type of crowd; solo or with a band, audiences connect with Luke’s music. To listen to Luke Dowler’s music, find information on upcoming tours or watch one of his videos go to www.lukedowler.com.

Jesus Pursuit Church - The Pursuit Live from Albany 2010 biography and historyJesus Pursuit Church - The Pursuit Live from Albany 2010 biography and history
History ::
Many are asking what is God doing and what is happening in the church today? We certainly don’t have all the answers, but we are seeking to know and respond to those questions at Jesus Pursuit Church. We are dedicating ourselves to know Christ and understand and respond to His message on the kingdom of heaven. God has truly blessed us and we want to do all we can to please Him, demonstrating His love in both word and deed.

We are trying our very best to pursue His presence through worship, prayer, the revelation of His word, and a lifestyle of giving and helping the poor in an effort to reach the world with the gospel. Those who become a part of this community of faith do so for many reasons, but will find few external controls or structures to move them to action. We value the unique calling upon each person, yet consider the headship of Christ and His love for the whole church to take a higher priority than individualism. Each ministry that is described on our web page was born in the heart of the person describing it. Our vision is continuing to develop from those God has joined together here, whether they have found Christ with us or were sent to help us. But there are some key values and parts of our vision that make us who we are, a developing regional resource center dedicated to equipping the saints for the ministry of Jesus Christ. We consider our values, that is, the way we carry out vision, to be as important as vision itself.

Worship and Prayer:
You will notice that I put them together. We have found joy in the house of prayer by doing them together. Worship is more than singing songs and expressing our selves to the Lord in dance or the arts. We truly enjoy these times together. But coming to behold the Lord and surrender our hearts to Him again and again is the real issue with worship. There is so much more of Jesus to know and love. The more we worship Him in spirit and in truth, the more we can become like Him. True worship must lead to a lifestyle of becoming a living sacrifice to Jesus. Worship often leads us into prayer, works of compassion, prophetic declarations and encounters with the glory of Christ.

Community:
Jesus never called converts, but disciples. Once the first disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit, they became a community of believers who were committed to both entering and extending the kingdom of heaven on earth. That is our heart’s desire. Though we have no formal membership, we welcome and are looking for those who want to be a part of a community of believers who are committed to be followers of Jesus in word and deed, doing the works that Jesus did with love and compassion.

A prophetic people:
What I mean by that statement are a people who love the truth both historical and present. The Holy Spirit continues to speak today to lead the body of Christ into greater power and purity to display the glory of God. We want to know the secrets of God’s heart for our generation and teach the next one to do the same by being humble servants first, then true friends of God who spend time in His presence through worship, soaking, waiting, listening and learning to both see and hear the mysteries of God that are in His word and Spirit. Prophetic people who have the Father’s heart will encourage, comfort and stir others to love and obey Christ and reach for their inheritance as sons and daughters of God.

Healing:
The word SOZO is a Greek word used in the scriptures that means to be saved, made whole, healed, rescued, set free. It is an all encompassing word for salvation that shows God’s heart for complete restoration of the human condition damaged by sins inherited or committed. So we minister to heal the sick and deliver the oppressed as Jesus and the early disciples did. These acts of compassion demonstrate God’s love and His desire to destroy the works of the devil while bringing a measure of the kingdom of God to earth.

Equipping:
The highest purpose of mature and gifted ministries is not to do the entire ministry, but to equip the saints to do the work of the ministry. Our Training For Reigning School of kingdom ministry is a concentrated three month time of teaching, impartation, and activation in basic kingdom theology and practice. But we also are finding more and more ways to take what is taught in ministry training, events, and weekly teaching corporately and in home groups into lifestyle activities that reach outside the walls of the church.

Justice and Mercy:
We continue to seek God for ways to reach out to the least of the world, especially the most innocent and vulnerable here and abroad. The plight of the hungry, children born and unborn, prisoners, and those disenfranchised is of great concern to us, as it is to Jesus. Missions at home and abroad consider it important to feed, clothe, house, and protect those we are trying to reach with the good news of the kingdom.

The Presence of God:
The last value I want to point to is our passion to know the glory and presence of Jesus Christ. We respect the many expressions of the body of Christ and love the whole Church. For our part, we want to know the tangible presence of God as Spirit filled and led people. That means that we try to avoid barriers that keep people from accessing His presence. We try to avoid overtly religious symbols and activities, and yet, we are not impressed with the culture of the world and see little value in trying to emulate it to reach people. Our hope is that people will walk into our worship times and other meetings and literally feel the very presence of God. Love, humility, generosity, hospitality, and a holy passion and focus to encounter Jesus together are what makes this possible or the lack of it diminishes it.

We invite you to come see and hear. This is a wonderful day to be alive. God has arisen from His habitation is coming to dwell with us. The kingdom of God is advancing, so passionately pursue and lay hold of it with intense desire.

Jars of Clay - Live at Gray Matters Vol 3 & Vol 4 2011 band members biography and historyJars of Clay - Live at Gray Matters Vol 3 & Vol 4 2011 band members biography and history
History ::
“Ar scath a cheile a mhaireas na daoine.”
An old Irish proverb, as translated: “It is in the shelter of each other that the people live.”

It is among our most basic of needs.
... And like the other simple building blocks of life – air, food, water – it can take on many forms. It can be physical or spiritual, close-in or far-flung, untested or time-honored.

For the men that make up the creative force called Jars of Clay, this season has tested their perceptions, challenged their beliefs, underscored their experiences and opened up the possibilities for new definitions of this necessary component.
And now it’s time to share their vision of The Shelter.

“Cast off the robes you’re wearing, set aside the names that you’ve been given…”
Writing songs about community as an aspect of shelter wouldn’t seem like a revolutionary idea. Neither would recruiting talented friends, both long-time and brand new, into your working environment. But for Jars of Clay, long-known as a self-contained creative organism, opening up the doors to let new voices speak into the process wasn’t the easiest decision.

“Jars of Clay, historically, has been this kind of compact creative environment; we’re known for doing everything from the songwriting to the producing to the artwork,” says guitarist Matt Odmark. “This was a push in a totally different direction. We brought people in on the songwriting side of things, and we knew in the beginning that we wanted as many voices as possible in the record.

“We wanted to make a record about community, and we wanted the recording process to be community. We wanted it to be an expression of what it was trying to articulate from a concept standpoint,” Odmark continues. “It wasn’t going to work any other way, and it didn’t make sense to us to write a record about community that was just us talking to one another.”

So the call went out to the creative community Jars has long been part of, but hadn’t felt led to truly tap into previously. Songwriters they respect, like Laura Story, Thad Cockrell and Phillip LaRue, injected new lifeblood into songs that had been percolating for more than a year, and long-established, readily recognizable voices, like those of Mac Powell, Amy Grant, Brandon Heath, Leigh Nash, TobyMac and more, lent timbre and texture to this new set of Jars of Clay songs.

And yet, the motivation was there to make them more than just a set of Jars of Clay songs.
“We wanted the songs to sound like a group of people more than ‘there’s Toby, there’s Leigh, there’s Mac,’ so we brought in a choir,” says keyboardist Charlie Lowell. “Steve did a great job of rallying a bunch of independent musicians from around the Nashville area,” including Katie Herzig, Andy and Jill Gullahorn, Sarah Masen Dark, Julie Lee, Trent Dabbs and Kate York.

“I should really be in A&R,” interjects guitarist Stephen Mason.
“He directed the choir, as well, so not only did he get ’em in the room, he told ’em what to do,” Lowell continues. “I should really be a V.P.,” Mason laughingly concludes, to the amusement of his bandmates.

“It’s out of my hands, it was from the start…”
Another of the challenges of trusting this new method of creating was not only asking others into the The Shelter process, but also convincing them to bring their own imprint into the project.

“One of the great parts, too, was to let the artists who weren’t able to physically come into the studio with us, just let them loose where they were,” says vocalist/lyricist Dan Haseltine. “I think a lot of artists create in a very controlled environment, where they’re taking cues from people on what they should be singing and how they should be singing it. We said to them, ‘What we really want is your instinct.’

“It doesn’t speak to the idea of community to tell them ‘sing this exactly like we did on the demo.’ We wanted them to do it how they’d do it, sing it how they’d sing it. If you hear other things that should be in the song, put them on there, then we’ll piece through it and figure it out what’s working with other peoples’ instincts.”

Even if it meant sometimes getting the exact opposite of what was asked for. “One of the ironies – at least I think it’s irony because I’m still confused by Alanis Morissette – was that some of the people we told to let loose would send back exactly what we sent them, and then others we’d tell ‘we need you to sing this exact part’ and they’d send us back something totally different,” Odmark says. “It was an interesting look in the mirror... ‘Oh. So this is what we’re like.’”

“Where you lead us, we will follow…”
What emerges on The Shelter is more of Jars of Clay’s signature sonics, informed by the season of their last project The Long Fall Back To Earth but echoing all the way back to its much-heralded self-titled debut, meshed with an heretofore underexplored inclusiveness of lyric that encourages the listener to join in on the song.

In short, these songs are designed to be sung aloud, with others, within the parameters of that listener’s own shelter.

For some, including the members of Jars of Clay, that will entail bringing them into the church environment proper, something that hadn’t really been a purposeful part of the band’s work before.

“One of the things we’re excited about with this record is to offer, with humility, what we’re excited about within the church,” Mason says. “We’re all big fans of the church. We attend church, so part of the passion we want to get to the people is that, hopefully, this is the language we can use to rejuvenate the way we speak about God in terms of each other.

“What has been, graciously, changing us is this idea that when we look around we see God in other people and in what they’re doing. We are the hands and feet,” Stephen continues. “We’re trying to find new language to describe stuff that we’re all probably in some regards cynical or bored about, because we want to believe there is life in those places.”

“In our weakness let us see, that alone we’ll never be…” Sometimes the hardest part of following the path you think you’re being led down is finding that motivation to keep going. And more often than not, that motivation comes from a place you least expect. Crafting The Shelter project has dominated the work thoughts of the men of Jars of Clay for more than a year, but it was the massive flooding in the Nashville area the first weekend of May 2010 and the subsequent aftermath that brought the idea of both a community in need and needing your community into stark relief.

The band experienced flood-related setbacks both personal and professional. Its recording studio suffered significant damage, as did Dan Haseltine’s home. But it was in that moment when the ephemeral idea of taking shelter within your community became concrete.

“When we were discussing making a record about community and really celebrating that, this story keeps coming up in my mind, because I realize that community can be inconvenience,” Haseltine says. “I’ve experienced that at my own house with people showing up with shovels and gloves and doing work that I couldn’t have done without them.

“A lot of us have experienced that; we’ve seen the character of our community,” Dan continues. “But we need Jesus to remind us sometimes that when we stop, we’re actually part of a great privilege, a privilege to be a community, a privilege to see God’s hand working and moving through us and for us.”

Pull out the roots we’ve dug in so deep, finish what you’ve started…help us to believe…

It’s never easy to change how you do what you do, especially after a decade and a half and a fair amount of success and acclaim. But tapping into new wells of creativity has long been a hallmark of Jars of Clay’s career, and letting go the reins and letting in a trusted community of talented people has generated one of the richest projects in the band’s long history.

It’s simply part of reacting to a change in the culture. “It used to be, when you met somebody new, the first question you asked was ‘So, what do you do?’” Haseltine says. “It’s becoming more and more that first question asked is ‘So, where are you from?’ Which means that we’re becoming a culture where we feel like our identity is more woven into the places where we live rather than the things we do for a living.

“So we hope this project will reflect this shift and reaffirm that as a more important thing, what we’re connected to as a community,” Dan concludes.

It’s a community that Jars of Clay has worked hard to build and engage with, and one that covers, comforts, strengthens, nourishes and emboldens. Like any good shelter should do.

"I am in the midst of lions: I lie among ravenous beasts-men whose teeth are spears and arrows, and whose tongues are sharp swords"-Psalms 57:4

In the Midst of Lions play vicious deathcore in the service of a higher power. A mixture of fast-paced tech metal and melodic worship, their music can be compared to such contemporaries as The Faceless, Meshuggah and Veil of Maya, with the addition of the fact that ITMOL packs a serious spiritual punch."Our generation is in dire need of a savior. It has become trendy to cast out our Lord, we are here to bring the truth." ITMOL's truth comes under the guise of death metal laced with explosive breakdowns and inspirational live shows. In the Midst of Lions will release "Out of Darkness" on Strike First records on May 26, 2009.

History ::
Abundant Life Church has its roots in the Charismatic Restoration movement of Arthur Wallis. It was founded in 1976 by Bryn Jones, one of the early Restoration/British New Church leaders, by an amalgamation of three small Bradford churches - a charismatic Brethren Assembly based at the Bolton Woods Gospel Hall, an independent charismatic church made up mostly of former Baptists who had been unable to continue in their church because of their charismatic beliefs, and the New Covenant Church, a fellowship originally under the apostolic leadership of G W North. In its early days it met in the Anglican Church House and so has often been known locally as Church House. In 1988, the church spent almost £1 million to buy a former textile mill on Wapping Road and build a main building with a car park at the rear.

The church was formerly a part of Covenant Ministries, but it withdrew from the organisation in 1997 under the leadership of Paul Scanlon. During this period the church grew in numbers and changed massively at this period and many church members withdrew their support and moved on to other churches. In that same period the church started on Christian TV. In January 2000, the church opened a new 2,000-seater auditorium, with the previous building becoming a dedicated youth centre. In 2008 an extension to the main building called The Champions Centre was opened, which includes a number of classrooms, a larger retail space, improved creche facilities and a coffee bar serving Starbucks coffee.

The town of Marlo has been thrown into confusion and crime all because of words that appear on a website. Someone has recorded conversations of the townspeople, word for word, onto the website. The words found there are shocking and devastating. Neighbor has turned against neighbor, friend against friend, husband against wife, all because of careless words spoken when they thought no one was listening. Their private conversations have just gone public. The police are scrambling to control the insanity the town is descending into, but they themselves are caught in the undertow. Marlo Sentential writer Damien Williams is trying to get to the bottom of the problem with his police officer friend Frank. But when words on the site begin to hit his own home and family, the police try to pin it on him and Frank. Damien resolves to find the culprit, or else.

When I first heard the description for this book, I knew it had to be good. Unlike most plots, there’s no way this book can’t be original. The foundational idea is very strong. The plot makes the reader think rather than only be entertained. The message is cutting and convicting because this type of thing could happen anytime anywhere, and it’s all because of our words.

As usual with Rene Gutteridge, the characters are complete with personalities and imperfection. Damien is not the type of lead one would expect from this type of book. Since this plot is all about imperfection, there is no way it can be crafted without imperfect characters. Not even the seemingly typical mentor character is innocent of serial speaking.

The best parts of the plot are who is writing the website and how they are capturing the conversations. This was the area of concern I had because Rene could have easily reverted to a sensational supernatural explanation, bringing down the rating a bit. But she kept the book in reality and gave a good explanation for how the eavesdropping was taking place. But the person who is doing it is the icing on the cake. Not many authors would have taken the leap she did in making the culprit close to home. There is also a key character death near the end to serve as a deep consequence of words.

Listen is the type of plot we don’t get to read very much-one that is centered around choices of the leads. I love these types of plots not only because they are realistic, but also because they make the reader think. Fiction should be about making the reader think about how they can make their life better rather than entertaining him, but doing this through using examples and not being preachy. Rene Gutteridge is one of the most prolific authors on the market because she has mastered this difficult goal.

Rating: 5/5

The driving rock beat and epic guitar sound of the record is tailor-made for summer radio. Gileah Taylor – I’m All InGileah Taylor
History ::
“The beautiful thing about inspiration is that it can come from the highest, the lowest, and the most mundane places. True artists know this and sit back and wait for those moments. They can’t be forced. They must be authentic. No one understands this better than Gileah Taylor. Mother, wife, minstrel, and muse, Gileah has written and recorded 10 new songs that make up her new double EP, What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line. Gileah wrote most of the songs in 2008 while pregnant with her second daughter, Mercie, and awaiting the return home of her husband, Chris Taylor, who was touring in support of his own album. What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line is Gileah’s second full-length release with The Love Library, an independent record label in Nashville owned by Allen Salmon. As with the previous release, Gileah and the Ghost Train, Gileah and Allen traveled back and forth from each other’s hometowns of Destin and Nashville, respectively, to record the songs. Gileah wrote and sang. Allen put all of the pieces together, creating the tapestry that makes up What Kind of Fool/A Crooked Line.

“Moms get to be creative every day, whether the creation is a loaf of bread or an hour painting a still life during the kid’s naptime,” Gileah explains. “In every moment my intention is to glorify God. I’m happy that He created me to be creative. I hope that my songs encourage others to be creative- in small, every day ways and in big, eternal ways.” The first single, “I’m All In” was inspired by an episode of The Gilmore Girls and Jazz by Toni Morrison. Each of the other nine songs tells a story as beautiful and poignant as “I’m All In,” and each of them comes from the same uniquely creative spot in Gileah’s heart. Some are happy. Some are sad. Some are joyful. Some are quirky. All are Gileah.”

Lyrics:

Girl, I wish that you would not give in so easily
‘Cause once I was where you are now
And I know just how you feel
You wonder what is real and what is love
When it’s all messed up
You don’t know how to bridge the gap
But since there is no turning back
You go all in
Say I’m all in
Say I’m all in
You fell in love, I rose in it

Boy, I wish the wall was not so high
You built it to the sky
It’s clear that you’ve been hurt but I
Won’t leave unless you leave with me
How’s that for a threat? I mean it
Yeah, I mean it
You don’t know how to bridge the gap
But since there is no turning back
You go all in
Say I’m all in
Say I’m all in
You fell in love, I rose in it

chris August - No far away 2010Chris August - No Far Away 2010
History ::
Chris, a native of Dallas, Texas, put his refined skill set to work when he co-produced his debut record with acclaimed producer Ed Cash. While he is not one to shy away from writing about his faith, Chris isn’t afraid to embraceelationships and heartache in his songwriting. Chris cites influences such as Stevie Wonder, John Mayer, and Gavin DeGraw who all contributed to the polished pop/rock sound that is sure to resonate with all who listen. The lead single is ‘Starry Night.’

Fervent Records’ newly signed singer-songwriter Chris August is gearing up for the release of his debut album No Far Away on August 24. While this Dallas, Texas native may be considered a “new” artist; Chris is anything but a rookie in the music industry. The self-taught pianist, guitarist and producer has previously worked with Brian McKnight, Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, Ryan Cabrera, among many others, and is now focused on his solo career full time.

“Growing up my life was all about basketball and music… After my NBA dreams quickly fell by the wayside, my journey in music began,” laughs Chris August. “This album shares bits and pieces of who I am and my life story. I’m incredibly excited to share it with the world and hope it resonates with listeners.”
