Thousand Foot Krutch - Oxygen Inhale 2014 Biography and History
History ::
Thousand Foot Krutch is a Canadian Christian rock band formed in 1997. They have released five major studio albums: Set It Off (2001), Phenomenon (2003), The Art of Breaking (2005), The Flame In All of Us (2007), and Welcome to the Masquerade (2009). Singer Trevor McNevan and drummer Steve Augustine are also members of their own side project band called FM Static and Joel Bruyere started his own solo project called The Drawing Room in 2009. The band has sold over a half a million albums as of 2010.

Trevor McNevan began the band in Peterborough, Ontario, a city northeast of Toronto, where he went to high school. Joel Bruyere, born in Brantford, Ontario, was McNevan's childhood friend who had moved away but remained in contact with him. Drummer Steve Augustine is from Hamilton, Ontario. Trevor's first band was Oddball, which featured Dave Smith on guitar, Tim Baxter on bass and Trevor's good friend, Three Days Grace's Neil Sanderson, on drums. Oddball recorded only one album, Shutterbug, which was released in 1995. McNevan is the founding member of TFK (along with original guitarist Dave Smith), formed in 1997 in Peterborough, Ontario. McNevan came up with TFK's name "symbolizing the point in our lives that we realize we can't make it on our own strength". He has written and released 6 albums with Thousand Foot Krutch to date and another three with his side project FM Static.

TFK has worked with Aaron Sprinkle (Mae/Anberlin/MxPx), Gavin Brown (Three Days Grace/Billy Talent/Thornley), Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace/Finger Eleven/Simple Plan), and Ken Andrews (Beck/Chris Cornell/Pete Yorn/Tenacious D) on their last 3 Tooth and Nail-released records.

Michael Ketterer & United Pursuit - The Wild Inside 2014 Biography and History
History ::
Ketterer Family Story ::

My wife (Ivey) and I (Michael) have been married fifteen years this past December. I know that seems like a long time, and that’s because it is! We became the best of friends in high school and were married shortly thereafter. We actually met while working at a local ice cream shop. I was the manager and Ivey, assistant manager.Ketter BoysNeedless to say, there were nights no work was done at all. We would spend paid hours goofing off and making messes. Our relationship at the time was assuredly plutonic, purely at Ivey’s demands. She expressed quite diligently that she only wanted a friendship with me and that was all. However, we were quickly discovering  we made a great team. After examining my options I decided to ask Ivey to marry me. My proposal was a shock to everyone, including Ivey. It was quite a romantic undertaking, one in which I could share another time, but for now all one needs to know is that she said “yes”.

A short two years later, my wife surprisingly became pregnant! On birth control we conceived a girl! Twenty-eight weeks later she was born! For those of you that didn’t catch that, it means our daughter came prematurely! During an emergency C-section my wife and daughter we’re both dying. I can remember like yesterday the doctor standing in front of me with facts of impending doom. I also remember the rush of courage, in actuality it was probably cortisol, whatever it was it lifted me to my feet and caused me to look dead into the physicians eyes and declare over my small family that they will live and not die!

I wanted to give you a quick background of our relationship in order to lay a foundation. You see, from the very beginning Ivey and I were a team, one well aquatinted with hardship. The thing about hardship and pain is that it only possesses the amount of power you allow it. The minute you choose to fight for joy and fun is the minute your perspective begins to change. Notice I didn’t say circumstances change, but perspective changes. Once your perspective changes it’s wild how quickly you uncover solutions. This is a lesson we were learning and still are to this day. And even though life was tough, it was not in vain. God was using every hardship to prepare us for what lied ahead.

 Six years ago, at the age of seven, my daughter Sofia began having dreams of us adopting. Her dreams were remarkably vivid. Each dream detailed the same story line. There were always three little boys. The youngest around one year old, was always in danger. It was Sofia’s responsibility to save him. She would wake up from her dream crying to either Ivey or myself demanding we adopt these little boys. Now, I’d like to say Ivey and I had always been open to adoption, but it simply wasn’t true. Even after Sofia’s dramatic birth and my wife’s inability to conceive thereafter, we still never thought of it. And even if we did, how could we possibly afford it! We were growing quite comfortable with our little family, free to roam the earth at a whim! Little did we know that our comfortable life was about to be shaken.

Sophie KettererIt only took Sofia and the Holy Spirit about two and a half years to persuade us into adoption. But even after our hearts warmed to the idea there was still the clouding question; how do we rummage up the finances? International adoptions average somewhere between twenty to thirty thousand dollars, and the cheapest stateside adoption, a black child from the intercity, is still ten to fifteen thousand dollars. How does a young couple come up with that kind of cash? It was only after meeting one of the most beautiful families; eight children, four white, four black, four girls, four boys, that our eyes were open to a third option.

We found out that it’s possible to adopt through foster care. We found out that the adoption process is not only most of the time free to foster-parents, never to exceed five hundred dollars, but the government actually pays parents to care for these children! My wife and I were astounded! “Why are more believers not doing this?” we asked ourselves. Doesn’t the scripture clearly explain caring for the orphan and widow is the purest form of religion? I was literally blown away! We were both filled with fresh vision and hope at the possibility of adoption.

Maybe we could now have my daughters dream?

Wait a minute!

Let’s slow down just a little!

I know we’re starting to get excited about adoption here, but my daughter’s dreams included three boys! My wife and I definitely weren’t ready for three boys! Or at least we thought we weren’t. We consoled Sofia time and time again, making sure she knew we were not specifying that we would only take boy orphans. “Little girl orphans need homes too,” I would say. She would always respond in her tender ten year old voice, “Whatever you say dad.” She is so much like her mother.

Shortly after completing our training and certification my wife received our first call from the agency. We braced ourselves, my ear pressed against the back of the phone. The caseworker on the other end of the line spoke,

“Mrs. Ketterer, we have a possible placement of a sibling group if you choose to accept.”

“What kind of sibling group?” She responded.

“Three boys mam, ages four, three, and one.”

Our jaws hit the floor, we knew instantly these were our children, Sofia’s dreams, our sons.

“Yes,” Ivey replied, and our lives would be forever changed.

Ketter BoysThese boys came with a warning, the agency wanted to be very clear and upfront about their behavioral problems. The caseworkers words exactly: “these boys are like wild wolves.” Our answer was still a resounding yes! Nothing is too great for God; love assuredly covers a multitude of sins! Thank God for naivety. Remember when we asked, “why aren’t more believers doing this?” After only a few weeks we were beginning to understand why some could be apprehensive. As a matter of fact, we were realizing how we had judged all kinds of people. From our six-bedroom home in a small neighborhood we judged parents. We said things like: “how could anyone neglect or harm a child?” We began understanding that the children were not the only victims but their parents were also a product of their upbringing. We were realizing our ministry was not just to our children but to parents, caseworkers, lawyers, and judges. The foster care system had opened up our eyes to an entirely new world that had once laid beneath our noses.

We later uncovered in the police report that the two older boys were found outside a meth lab running through the woods. When the police raided the premises they found the youngest boy in a crib drinking from a spoiled milk bottle. The police estimated he had gone several days without food. Our first season with these “wild wolves” in our home was quite a challenge. We dealt with issues such as being born addicted to meth, malnutrition, detachment disorder, heightened sensitivity, severe ADHD, pooping and peeing all over everything, color blindness, and dental issues out the wazoo! But all of this was just that, a season. Underneath all the symptoms we were uncovering hearts of gold. With each day we chose to love, more and more of their true identity began surfacing. With each day the wild orphan boys were becoming sons.

Ketter BoysToday we have three amazing, well adjusted, and full of life boys. Their ages are seven, seven, and four years old. Additionally we have adopted another four-year-old boy with cerebral palsy, and are fostering another four-year-old boy. Yes, you read that correctly. We have two seven year olds and three four year olds in our home, all boys. We call the four year olds our triplets. One is African American, one is white, and the third is Hispanic. My wife always says; “only God can give you triplets like that.” Each of our five boys came within a twelve-mile radius of our home. Who knew there were orphans in our own neighborhood?

Michael & Ivey Ketterer

Through our experience our eyes have been opened to how God is working in our own community. We have seen the power of God move in our own lives bringing healing to those around us.   We have been enriched by the love we have experienced. The battle for our boys has been extreme at times, but it has never compared to the joy, and revelation of the Fathers heart we have gained. The bible doesn’t call us to be merely sitters, or to be readers or listeners of the word. It calls us to be doers of the word, warriors in His kingdom. In James 1:27 it explains that the purest and most undefiled form of religion is caring for the orphan and the widow. I grew up pondering on how ironic this scripture is, because as a pastor’s son, I never saw orphans given any kind of a platform. It was only after adoption that I gained a revelation about this scripture. The only way to truly care for orphans or widows is for the church to act as its purest design: family. Orphans and widows only gain they’re deepest needs in the context of family. What every orphan needs is a father, a mother and there is a gaping hole in each individual until that is filled. After all, it’s the very thing our heavenly father did for us. I always say, if you want to be like God, adopt!

Three years ago my wife and I said yes to James 1:27. It’s not only the cry of orphans to have family, but the heart of the father to place them in one, Psalm 68:6. Can you hear their cry, will you respond? Will you become family to the orphans in this world, in your neighborhood? If you would like to learn how to get more involved we have included some resources. One of the easiest ways is to buy my latest album The Wild Inside. A percentage of all proceeds will be donated to Childhelp, the organization that helped give us our sons.

Luminous City - Luminous City (2014) Biography and History
History ::
LuminousCITY, a collective of musicians, songwriters, and artists from Rolling Hills Community Church and Music City, announce the release of their eponymous debut recording. The modern sacred collection of new and re-imagined songs represents more than a year of dreaming, songwriting, and collaboration, set into motion by a successful Indiegogo campaign. An intimate meditation on prayer, space, and the Divine, LuminousCITY’s street date release is slated for February 4, 2014.

“The arts are a sacred invitation to connect and commune with our Creator,” reflects Chad Jarnagin, Worship Arts Pastor at Rolling Hills Community Church and LuminousCITY collaborator. “It is our mission to create art that draws people into intimacy with God, and we are humbled to have our faith family come around us and generously give to make this happen.”

Set into motion through a successful Indiegogo campaign with more than 70 donors, LuminousCITY is a vision several years in the making. With its close proximity to Nashville, Rolling Hills in Franklin, Tenn. has long been home to a number of musicians, artists, and songwriters. As these worshipers have grown as a community, writing songs and making music, a vision emerged for a ministry focused at creative arts professionals—pastors, writers, painters, artists, musicians, songwriters, and dreamers. LuminousProject began in 2011 as a contemplative movement and space designed to encourage, inspire, and enlighten.

“You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden.” Matthew 5:14
LuminousCITY builds on the vision of LuminousProject, shining the light of the Creator through a musical exploration of space, sound, and liturgy. Born in the Rolling Hills arts community and backed financially by friends and partners of the church, LuminousCITY is a true collective, comprised of vocalist/songwriter/guitarist Chad Jarnagin (Worship Arts Pastor at Rolling Hills, Among Thorns), singer/songwriter Lanae’, vocalist/songwriter/guitarist David Curtis (Worship Arts Pastor South Nashville, Run Kid Run), drummer Andy Williams (Casting Crowns), guitarist Cody Bender (VOTA), vocalist Jennifer Akers, cellist Justin Saunders, and multi-instrumentalist and composer David Gross. This team represents a larger community of passionate and devoted worshipers who share the heart and vision of LuminousCITY.

“We set out to create a collection of songs that could not only be sung in worship but that drew people into moments of personal worship,” adds Lanae’. “This was definitely a moving experience for us, and I believe that really comes through in the recording.”

This cycle of songs takes its time establishing the right atmosphere. Beginning with an original instrumental by David Gross, a pulsing Rhodes and droning, Hammock-inspired guitars invite the listener to close their eyes, open their hands, and breathe deep. From this etherial space comes the full-band original “Your Love Moves,” which shimmers to life with Lanae’s breathy voice declaring her confident longing for a love that transforms.

“Kingdom Come” is next, another original performed by Jarnagin that contrasts tight tom grooves with lush instrumentation and layered vocals, calling listeners from a posture of reflection to participation.

The modern Twila Paris hymn “He Is Exalted” is re-imagined in an arrangement by David Curtis, again returning the listener to a time of sonic reflection before exploding into the anthemic crashing of drums and joyous interplay of vocals and guitars.

A prayer in song, “Psalm 23” presents an original take on the classic Scripture with Lanae’ echoing the psalmist’s declaration that “You are my shepherd.” Continuing this posture of prayer comes the intimate, “The Silence.” As Bender’s guitars ebb to and from the foreground, Jennifer Akers voices an invitation from the Creator to shed our burdens, fears, and distractions and meet Him in the silence.

The instrumental “Interlude”, written by Gross and Jarnagin, transitions the recording from prayerful reflection to collective liturgy and an original arrangement of “Doxology.” A Sigur Ros-inspiring drone of synth, string, and distorted guitar lay the foundation for this timeless declaration of praise.

LuminousCITY closes the cycle of songs with a version of Bellarive’s “Stand Tall (Heartbeat)” that is at once benediction and commission. It’s a fitting end to this sonic cycle of reflection, prayer, and worship and a striking fulfillment of LuminousCITY’s mission.

At once intimate and jubilant, LuminousCITY is a sonic invitation to intimacy with the Creator. You can join them by downloading LuminousCITY on iTunes on 2/4/14.

The-Almost--Fear-Inside-Our-Bones-2013-Biography-and-History
Biography ::
It’s all too easy to make an album in this day and age. You rent out a studio, record one part, and then cut and paste it across the whole record. That happens partly because of fear. Putting your soul on tape is a scary thing. THE ALMOSTovercame that fear and did something completely different for not only themselves but modern rock as a whole. They holed up in a small room in Nashville’s Omni Studios for only five days and played every note of their third full-length album, FEAR INSIDE OF OUR BONES (Tooth & Nail/EMI/Universal), together in unison.
Now, there’s an overwhelming thunder on the horizon. It’s the sound of a band realizing its potential. It’s the sound of life. It’s the sound of THE ALMOST.
The group made the decision to record the album in the same room completely live, and the album was born in their collective blood, sweat, and tears.“It wasn’t a piecemeal process as the majority of modern records are,” explains lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist AARON GILLESPIE.With a little help from producer Marshall Altman (Tom Morello, Ingrid Michaelson, William Fitzsimmons), the music was made live over the course of merely five days. “It’s something none of us have ever done and with the time crunch, we were surprised how tight of a live band we’ve finally become.Thematically, we bounced the entire record off using anxiety as our backboard.
THE ALMOSThave come a long way since the release of their 2007 debutSouthern Weather(Tooth & Nail/Virgin) which hit the Billboard Top 200 chart at #39 with 29,000 copies sold in its first week and spawned their first single “Say This Sooner” which hit Top Ten at Alternative Radio. In the aftermath, the current lineup–AARON GILLESPIE(lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist), JAY VILARDI [guitars], DUSTY REDMON[guitars], JON THOMPSON [bass], and JOE MUSTEN [drums]—had solidified, and they played to rabid crowds around the world. In 2009, the group delivered Monster, Monster which Alternative Press hailed “a time-release painkiller: Once the emotionally charged rock gets into your system, its’ good for a long-lasting buzz” (November 2009). After touring with Paramore, The Starting Line, The Used and a trek on the Vans Warped Tour the acclaimed group performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!and have gone on to sell over 300,000 albums.
“We’ve always been polished in the studio,” says Vilardi. “We never quite got the live energy down. We became a great live unit on the Monster, Monster cycle because we were busier than we’d ever been. That played into the vibe of this record. On stage, Aaron is a fireball of energyWe share anxiety. We’re anxious little dudes, and you can hear that in the record because it’s live.”
“That’s why it’s got a gritty, dirty vibe,” Gillespie goes on. “We went for it. We did Monster, Monster the traditional way. We spent a ton of money on a massive studio and all of these things we didn’t need. It was amazing doing everything live. I’ll do records like this for the rest of my life. We wanted to be on a time crunch so we only booked the studio for five days.”
In those five days, the musicians tapped into elegantly visceral rock energy. Album opener “Ghost” echoes with unbridled blues intensity before converging on a divinely heavy refrain.
“The broken guitar sound at the beginning—the two notes that start our record—are my two favorite notes I’ve ever played,” Vilardi laughs. “It’s the perfect starting point.
About the lyrics, Gillespie reveals, “You have to test yourself. So often, we take things that we see and hear at face value. With yourself, you can’t do that. You’ve got to test everything. You can’t trust yourself until you’ve tested yourself. You’ve got to run your thinking through the lens.”
Meanwhile, the first single “I’m Down” steams ahead like a swaggering Southern freight train before the singer carries a soulful chorus proclaiming, “Don’t count me out.”
“Musically, it’s one of the rawest songs,” Gillespie explains. “It’s about relationships. For me, I felt like I failed someone and I was wondering if I could even give anything else. In a relationship, you get to that point where you wonder if you’ve failed so bad the other person will even accept anything else from you. You have to show the change in your heart and life for it to work.”
Vilardi continues, “It’s indicative of where we come from. This is a rock ‘n’ roll band, and people will hear that.”
Across the entire album, Gillespie continues to wear his heart on his sleeve. He doesn’t hold anything back within the lyrics or music. ”I want to make music that I believe in,” he proclaims. “I want people to trust that I’m being honest. I’m not so concerned about moving units or anything like that. It’s about being honest with people. I want everyone to realize this is real. This is my life and reality.”
“First and foremost, we have to like what we’re doing,” adds Vilardi. ”That’s such a crucial component of all of this. We need to make it as meaningful and great as we can. We need to completely believe in what we do, and that’s the case with this album.”
Amidst all of the thundering rhythms and massive riffs, The Almost’s honesty resounds the loudest. “There’s hope,” Gillespie concludes. “People are free to feel the way they feel and go through what they’re going through. We’re free to hurt. We’re free to live. I think music is the best vehicle to spread that. Music is the great communicator. This is my soundtrack, heartbeat, and who I want to be. I hope everyone feels like this record belongs to them.”

 It’s all too easy to make an album in this day and age. You rent out a studio, record one part, and then cut and paste it across the whole record. That happens partly because of fear. Putting your soul on tape is a scary thing. THE ALMOST overcame that fear and did something completely different for not only themselves but modern rock as a whole.

“It’s something none of us have ever done and with the time crunch, we were surprised how tight of a live band we’ve finally become.Thematically, we bounced the entire record off using anxiety as our backboard.“

THE ALMOSThave come a long way since the release of their 2007 debut, Southern Weather(Tooth & Nail/Virgin) which hit the Billboard Top 200 chart at #39 with 29,000 copies sold in its first week and spawned their first single “Say This Sooner” which hit Top Ten at Alternative Radio.

On stage, Aaron is a fireball of energy. We share anxiety.

Fiction Family - Fiction Family Reunion 2013 Biography and history
Biography ::

The second full-length partnership of Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) and Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek, Works Progress Administration), “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” sees these two distinctive artists once again offering up their idiosyncratic blend of folk flavor, classic pop arrangements, and expertly etched songcraft. Where 2009’s self-titled debut was almost entirely self-created by the two musician/songwriters working in their own home studios, the new album finds the duo joined by touring bassist Tyler Chester and drummer Aaron Redfield, both now full-fledged Family members. With Foreman and Watkins leading on vocals, guitars, and any other instrument that might happen to strike their fancy, Fiction Family have conjured a remarkably rich collection defined by its collaborative chemistry. Songs such as the tender “Damaged” and the soulful first single, “Up Against The Wall,” reverberate with lyrical resonance and sonic ingenuity, the extraordinary natural sound of a gifted band in full flight.

FICTION FAMILY REUNION” was recorded at Switchfoot’s Spot X Studio in Carlsbad, CA over a series of sessions spanning 2010 to early 2012, the lengthy process necessitated by Foreman and Watkins’ always busy schedules. A family in more than just name only, the band was joined on a number of tracks by Nickel Creek fiddle player Sara Watkins and multi-instrumentalist John Mark Painter.

Fiction Family will celebrate the release of “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” with a major North American tour presented by To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA’s “Heavy & Light Tour” is slated to hit 15 cities across the U.S. and Canada, beginning in mid-January 2013. Full details will be announced shortly – please visit www.twloha.com for more information.

Foreman and Watkins first became fast friends when Switchfoot and Nickel Creek shared the top of the bill at their hometown music festival, San Diego’s famed Street Scene. E-mail addresses were exchanged and the duo began writing songs with little goal other than that of two friends sharing the joy of making music together. Recording proved the obvious next step and in 2009, Fiction Family’s eponymous debut album was released to both popular success and critical fanfare. “(Foreman and Watkins) make a pretty solid team,” noted Paste, continuing, “Foreman is an excellent writer, singer and arranger, and Watkins’ accompaniment on harmony vocals, guitar, bass, keys – even mandolin, ukulele and 12-string – lighten the intensity and add a rich earthiness.” NPR’s Ken Tucker praised “FICTION FAMILY” as “delicate, industrious and intricate,” with Billboard hailing its songs as “richly crafted and intriguingly rendered.” Slant commended “the duo's intricate vocal harmonies…and stately chamber-pop arrangement(s),” while the Washington Post ruled the album to be “a solid set of near-duets from two diverse, accomplished musicians.” “Foreman and Watkins have been able to produce something truly different from what they have done in the past,” proclaimed AbsolutePunk.net, applauding “FICTION FAMILY” as “a collection of finely-crafted, well-thought out tunes (from) one of music's most talented guitarists and one of its most gifted songwriters.”

Newark, NJ-based Rock Ridge Music has signed Fiction Family to a label deal and is now set to release the band’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album (with distribution via ADA). “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” arrives in stores and all DSPs on January 29th.
