Family Force 5 - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen 2014 Biography and History
History ::
Alternative Pop/Rock band Family Force 5 releases their Christmas single, “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen” on November 18. True to form, Family Force 5 adds their signature electronic/dance/pop vibe to this interpretation of the holiday classic, complemented by their trademark over-the-top artwork.
Like many bands, the creation of the song all came down to the right inspiration. Unlike many bands, their inspiration revolved around some cheap green velvet from the basement. Derek Mount (a.k.a., “Chap Stique”) explains: “We were sitting around the studio struggling to find the right sound until Riley (Friesen, producer) grabbed a cheap, velvet Christmas tree costume that was lying in his basement and gave it to Hollywood. As soon as he put on that ridiculous green suit, the rest of us started cracking up and then blared early 2000’s hip-hop through his headphones so he could play along for inspiration.  After a few minutes, Hollywood came up with a ghetto, bouncy beat and the track pretty much wrote itself. Once we had the pocket, the remaining parts felt very natural, and very Family Force 5.”
The single, available at DSPs only, drops just two days after the band wraps their 28-city “We Believe Fall Tour” with the Newsboys and 7eventh Time Down, closing out a dynamic year for the band. In October, they landed their first Hot AC/CHR No. 1 radio hit, “Let It Be Love” from their critically acclaimed album, Time Stands Still, that shot to the top of multiple album charts when it debuted Aug. 5 from Word Entertainment. Additionally, “BZRK (feat. KB),” the first music video from Time Stands Still, became the No. 1 most-viewed music video at MTV.com.
The band recently finished shooting its next highly anticipated video, “Sweep the Leg” and can be seen on Winter Jam 2015, which kicks off its 47-city run January 2. Family Force 5 will be joining label-mates Skillet, Francesca Battistelli, for KING & COUNTRY, Blanca, About A Mile and VERIDIA.

Thi'sl - Fallen King 2014 Biography and History
Biography ::

A lot of people ask me, “Why do I do what I do, the way I do?” I grew up in St. Louis, Missouri, in one of the worst neighborhoods in America, in one of the worst times in the country’s gang history. In my neighborhood just like a lot of other neighborhoods around the world, it was plagued with violence and drugs. Where I grew up 75% of the males believe that there is one way to make money and that’s trapping or as you would say selling drugs. When it comes to gangs, If your hood bangs and you hang out, you are visible to other hoods, so you might as well bang cause you affiliated, so we bang. If you a male in hoods like mines you either trapping, robbing, stealing, murking for money, or you broke. It’s the same for the women, 75% of the females either on welfare, boosting (stealing clothes), trapping or looking for a dude with money to support them, and that’s how it go. Our mindset is, “this is where I am, my momma a drunk or smoked out, my daddy was this so that’s what I’m gone be, all my family in the street get it like this, my whole hood live this way, I have to do what I have to do, this is life.” You add this onto the back of a sixteen year old that just had a baby, everyday he comes in the house there is no food, a house full of crack heads, and you get what you see in the inner cities around the world, "Survivors!" This life that we live is made to look cool, by the media, movies, magazines, documentaries, and of course, music. Most rappers you hear today spitting gangsta are “Fake thugs, point blank period!” They have never touched a gram of dope, never banged a ratchet (a gun), and have never even been hood at all, never! Every now and then you get a couple of them that really are hood, when they come out talking about hood life, the struggle of it, the drive of wanting to get out by any means necessary, they become our voice because their story is our story and therefore it becomes the soundtrack to our life. When your hear a dude talking about your struggle and you see him come up out of it, you think that can work for you and even if it don’t, the pressure that comes along with the life we live will make you try it because anything is better than this. I don’t condone anyone selling drugs, stealing, killing, robbing or any crime, but I do understand the mindset of the people that do it for survival. I’ve been in the situation where my kids didn’t have any where to stay, no family to help and thinking from a hood mindset, I would have murked the world to feed my babies. I understand the young boy that wants to be a man and provide for his family so bad that he would rob to do it. I understand that he only uses the things that he knows and I spit to give him hope that there is another way to live. "Thats why I do what i do." One day I was awakened to the fact that the way i was living was all a lie! Everything that my hood, music and movies told me was not what i was born to be, I wasn’t born to be a goon, killer or murderer. I was awakened to the fact that females were not made to be toys of my sexual pleasure. They were not part time conversations or trashcans for me to dump my hurts and emotions. I learned that God made them, as well as myself, and that God had a purpose in mind for me and them. In the hood we are some of the most religious, hypocritical people I have ever seen. We have what my friends and I call “Hood Theology.” We know God exist, we say we love God, we pray, we may even go to church, but we think God is cool with everything we do. I know I been there. I’m in the back of the police car cuffed up, I’m like, “ God get me out of this please I will never do it again.” Soon as I’m out the car I’m right back at it again. I’m stupid high riding in the car, like, “man God please don’t let me crash, I’m done getting blowed.” Soon as I wake up the next day I’m right back at it again. Faced down in the trap house by the police, guns in my face, guns busting at me, shot up in the hospital almost dead, locked up on felonies and get out messing with nasty girls. What ever the case is, we see that the grace of God. that same grace gets us out of trouble time and time again and we go right back to what we do, because God keeps showing us grace and we think it means He’s cool with what we live. That’s what I thought to, because God kept showing me grace in my (most I just named) situations I thought God was cool with how I was living, but he wasn’t, and if you living that way He is not cool with it either. The truth is this;
Romans 1: 4 Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?
5 But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
That’s why God shows us mercy and grace, so it can lead us to repentance, to faith in Jesus, but instead we continue on and store up wrath for ourselves. I know because I was the same way, I thought God was cool with everything I did because I knew he was always letting trouble past me by that I deserved, but He wasn't . Grace says even though you deserve to go to jail for the rest of your life, I’m going to let you free. Even though, you should have HIV from all the people you slept with, you don’t. Even though, you should be dead from those 9 shots or even paralyzed, you’re not because of Grace! God’s grace should lead us to repentance! We should look at the grace that God is showing us and turn from our sin filled wicked lives and live for Him! Instead the sin in our hard hearts pushes us to continue on and use God’s grace like a diaper, we dirty it up and throw it away and then we call him again when we need Him. Still again, there is grace. That’s what grace is even though we deserve the consequence; God doesn’t allow it to happen. When I learned about the biggest act of grace I was rocked to the core. For the sin we commit we should receive death, not just death but hell. That’s another part of “Hood Theology,” that hell doesn’t exist, but that’s a lie. The biggest act of grace for you and me was this,
“Romans 5:6 for while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly (for you)
.7 For one will scarcely die for a righteous person-though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die-
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life”.
That’s why God keeps showing you grace, so you can see His love, repentant your sin and believe in Jesus as your savior. That’s love, that God would put His Son to death in your place for your sin. When I learned about that I was so gone on the fact that God loved me that much, that grace lead me to repentance. Now I am a voice crying out to hoods across the globe saying, “look at the grace of God while you are still alive and repent.” A voice of the people from amongst the people, “saying we don’t have to suffer as murders, thieves and trappers,” saying, “Young girl you're worth more than that, God loves you, you have a father in Him, and you can be more than a baby momma.” That’s why I rap the way I do, this is why I do what I do.”

Family-Force-5--Reanimated-2013-Biography-and-History
History ::
Mix a handful of thunderous beats and a dash of dirty Souf swagger in a bucket filled with Southern-fried, greasy guitar. Then roast ingredients all day in the sweltering Georgia heat, pepper with good-time lyrics, and enjoy the spicy southern rock jambalaya of FAMILY FORCE 5. Since 2005, the genre-obliter...ating Atlanta quintet has been setting audiences’ feet alight with their incendiary dance-rock anthems, turning that dance floor into hot coals, refusing to let fans keep their kicks still.

Part party-bangers, part grimy rockers, FAMILY FORCE 5’s booty-quaking beats and face-melting synths have earned them a devout following culled from their seemingly ceaseless touring and chart-topping albums, the group’s previous album 08’s Dance or Die debuted on the Billboard Top 200 chart at #30 and at #8 on the Modern Rock with 13,000 copies sold in the first week.
Their frenetic 2006 debut Business Up Front, Party in the Back was released on Maverick records, but when the major label politics became burdensome, FAMILY FORCE 5 forged their own path, pushing their release to sell over 350,000 digital singles and well over 150,000 albums. It’s the DIY-style that has made this musical family (made up of the brothers Jacob, Josh, and Solomon Olds, and brothers-from-other-mothers, Nathan Currin and Derek Mount) into a self-made juggernaut that steamrollered audiences with their upbeat party anthems and raucous stage antics. Their 2008 follow-up Dance or Die pushed the band further into electro-groove territory, with Solomon’s passionate vocals leading the synth-powered cavalcade.

Now after three years of touring the universe and electrifying crowds at big festivals like Sonisphere and the Vans Warped Tour, the band is back with their new release, III. “We wanted this to be our Thriller album. We just didn’t land the guest appearances by Paul McCartney or Eddie Van Halen,” guitarist Derek Mount jokes about the much-anticipated follow-up to Dance or Die. “We wrote this record everywhere while we were on tour,” says Solomon. “It was written on my laptop and recorded in studios around the world. We wrote nearly 70 songs in the back of the bus, on airplanes, in barbecue joints, and in a cabin in the north Georgia mountains.”

III takes FAMILY FORCE 5 back to their rock roots, and those early days when the Olds brothers would perform in a backyard shed at their parents’ Marietta, Georgia home. Music wasn’t a choice for these brothers; it was in their blood. “We were destined for music,” Solomon says. “We knew we had to do it.” Their father Jerome Olds was a well-regarded singer and their mother was a music teacher. While they were just adolescents, they founded a band, honing their musical chops on stages across the country, until the spirit of rock compelled them to pick up guitars in the 2000’s.

On the new album’s return-to-rock sound, the band resurrects the heavy guitars and bombastic beats of their debut. Opening track “Can You Feel It” explodes with searing guitars and Solomon’s distorted voice slices through the boom-bap of tumultuous drums. “Our goal was to make jock jams for the future,” Derek says about the album opener. “At the time, we were listening to a lot of Sleigh Bells, and we wanted to create something mean and gritty that you could hear on Sportscenter. This track gets people hyped up, and it perfectly sets the tone for the rest of the album.” Unadulterated energy ties the band’s unstoppable genre-hopping as FAMILY FORCE 5 explores low slung bass booms and harmonica howls on “Wobble” and the tongue-in-cheek “scenie baby” call-out pop song, “Tank Top.” These are songs for blaring at maximum volume, blasting from a sweaty club or a low-riding pick-up truck. “III sounds like rock and roll with barbecue sauce,” Derek laughs.

Although they aren’t afraid to take a trip on the ironic side, the band tips their hats to authenticity and the places where they grew up. “We embraced the redneck part of where we are from,” Solomon says. “We tried to run away from it for so long, but there’s no denying: there’s some country boy in us.” On III, the band wanted to infuse a taste of reality too, exploring more than just the party scene that they had been espousing for their career. On “Paycheck,” the band addresses the challenges of living in a country suffering with economic collapse and seemingly incurable unemployment.

“I’m broke/broke as a joke/thinkin’ ‘bout movin’ back in with my folks,” Solomon sings on “Paycheck.”

Along their tireless touring schedule, FAMILY FORCE 5 heard the stories of their fans who were down on their luck, unemployed and struggling to survive. “A lot of America is pretty poor right now,” Solomon explains. “We kept hearing our fans say that they were living paycheck to paycheck. So we wanted to write a song about that, with a positive message that turns it around.”

On the downbeat “Not Alone,” they dig a little deeper as Solomon sings about the anxiety and tribulations induced by leaving their families at home amidst their relentless tour schedule. The song’s desperate longing for restoration also drew inspiration from the severe illness of his brother and bandmate Joshua, who nearly died from kidney failure during the band’s Christmas tour. “We were on tour, and I was in emergency room with him, so there was nobody else out there when I found out that he was really sick,” Solomon remembers. “I felt so alone at that moment in time and I wanted to talk about that in this song. It’s one of the most serious songs we’ve written. We still have some crazy, stupid-fun songs, but now we can get a little deeper. I feel like we’re growing up.”

After a lifetime of making music, FAMILY FORCE 5 have unmistakably come into their own. They’ve forged together their disparate musical influences, their reckless attitude, and heartfelt authenticity into III. Now, with hardships behind them and the open road ahead, the band is on a mission to keep their fire spreading and their family growing.

“FAMILY FORCE 5 is a real, authentic community that transcends the music,” Derek says. “We make music that we love, and we hope other people love it too, whether it makes them break-dance, two-step, or simply smile.”

The-Almost--Fear-Inside-Our-Bones-2013-Biography-and-History
Biography ::
It’s all too easy to make an album in this day and age. You rent out a studio, record one part, and then cut and paste it across the whole record. That happens partly because of fear. Putting your soul on tape is a scary thing. THE ALMOSTovercame that fear and did something completely different for not only themselves but modern rock as a whole. They holed up in a small room in Nashville’s Omni Studios for only five days and played every note of their third full-length album, FEAR INSIDE OF OUR BONES (Tooth & Nail/EMI/Universal), together in unison.
Now, there’s an overwhelming thunder on the horizon. It’s the sound of a band realizing its potential. It’s the sound of life. It’s the sound of THE ALMOST.
The group made the decision to record the album in the same room completely live, and the album was born in their collective blood, sweat, and tears.“It wasn’t a piecemeal process as the majority of modern records are,” explains lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist AARON GILLESPIE.With a little help from producer Marshall Altman (Tom Morello, Ingrid Michaelson, William Fitzsimmons), the music was made live over the course of merely five days. “It’s something none of us have ever done and with the time crunch, we were surprised how tight of a live band we’ve finally become.Thematically, we bounced the entire record off using anxiety as our backboard.
THE ALMOSThave come a long way since the release of their 2007 debutSouthern Weather(Tooth & Nail/Virgin) which hit the Billboard Top 200 chart at #39 with 29,000 copies sold in its first week and spawned their first single “Say This Sooner” which hit Top Ten at Alternative Radio. In the aftermath, the current lineup–AARON GILLESPIE(lead vocalist, lyricist and guitarist), JAY VILARDI [guitars], DUSTY REDMON[guitars], JON THOMPSON [bass], and JOE MUSTEN [drums]—had solidified, and they played to rabid crowds around the world. In 2009, the group delivered Monster, Monster which Alternative Press hailed “a time-release painkiller: Once the emotionally charged rock gets into your system, its’ good for a long-lasting buzz” (November 2009). After touring with Paramore, The Starting Line, The Used and a trek on the Vans Warped Tour the acclaimed group performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!and have gone on to sell over 300,000 albums.
“We’ve always been polished in the studio,” says Vilardi. “We never quite got the live energy down. We became a great live unit on the Monster, Monster cycle because we were busier than we’d ever been. That played into the vibe of this record. On stage, Aaron is a fireball of energyWe share anxiety. We’re anxious little dudes, and you can hear that in the record because it’s live.”
“That’s why it’s got a gritty, dirty vibe,” Gillespie goes on. “We went for it. We did Monster, Monster the traditional way. We spent a ton of money on a massive studio and all of these things we didn’t need. It was amazing doing everything live. I’ll do records like this for the rest of my life. We wanted to be on a time crunch so we only booked the studio for five days.”
In those five days, the musicians tapped into elegantly visceral rock energy. Album opener “Ghost” echoes with unbridled blues intensity before converging on a divinely heavy refrain.
“The broken guitar sound at the beginning—the two notes that start our record—are my two favorite notes I’ve ever played,” Vilardi laughs. “It’s the perfect starting point.
About the lyrics, Gillespie reveals, “You have to test yourself. So often, we take things that we see and hear at face value. With yourself, you can’t do that. You’ve got to test everything. You can’t trust yourself until you’ve tested yourself. You’ve got to run your thinking through the lens.”
Meanwhile, the first single “I’m Down” steams ahead like a swaggering Southern freight train before the singer carries a soulful chorus proclaiming, “Don’t count me out.”
“Musically, it’s one of the rawest songs,” Gillespie explains. “It’s about relationships. For me, I felt like I failed someone and I was wondering if I could even give anything else. In a relationship, you get to that point where you wonder if you’ve failed so bad the other person will even accept anything else from you. You have to show the change in your heart and life for it to work.”
Vilardi continues, “It’s indicative of where we come from. This is a rock ‘n’ roll band, and people will hear that.”
Across the entire album, Gillespie continues to wear his heart on his sleeve. He doesn’t hold anything back within the lyrics or music. ”I want to make music that I believe in,” he proclaims. “I want people to trust that I’m being honest. I’m not so concerned about moving units or anything like that. It’s about being honest with people. I want everyone to realize this is real. This is my life and reality.”
“First and foremost, we have to like what we’re doing,” adds Vilardi. ”That’s such a crucial component of all of this. We need to make it as meaningful and great as we can. We need to completely believe in what we do, and that’s the case with this album.”
Amidst all of the thundering rhythms and massive riffs, The Almost’s honesty resounds the loudest. “There’s hope,” Gillespie concludes. “People are free to feel the way they feel and go through what they’re going through. We’re free to hurt. We’re free to live. I think music is the best vehicle to spread that. Music is the great communicator. This is my soundtrack, heartbeat, and who I want to be. I hope everyone feels like this record belongs to them.”

 It’s all too easy to make an album in this day and age. You rent out a studio, record one part, and then cut and paste it across the whole record. That happens partly because of fear. Putting your soul on tape is a scary thing. THE ALMOST overcame that fear and did something completely different for not only themselves but modern rock as a whole.

“It’s something none of us have ever done and with the time crunch, we were surprised how tight of a live band we’ve finally become.Thematically, we bounced the entire record off using anxiety as our backboard.“

THE ALMOSThave come a long way since the release of their 2007 debut, Southern Weather(Tooth & Nail/Virgin) which hit the Billboard Top 200 chart at #39 with 29,000 copies sold in its first week and spawned their first single “Say This Sooner” which hit Top Ten at Alternative Radio.

On stage, Aaron is a fireball of energy. We share anxiety.

Fiction Family - Fiction Family Reunion 2013 Biography and history
Biography ::

The second full-length partnership of Jon Foreman (Switchfoot) and Sean Watkins (Nickel Creek, Works Progress Administration), “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” sees these two distinctive artists once again offering up their idiosyncratic blend of folk flavor, classic pop arrangements, and expertly etched songcraft. Where 2009’s self-titled debut was almost entirely self-created by the two musician/songwriters working in their own home studios, the new album finds the duo joined by touring bassist Tyler Chester and drummer Aaron Redfield, both now full-fledged Family members. With Foreman and Watkins leading on vocals, guitars, and any other instrument that might happen to strike their fancy, Fiction Family have conjured a remarkably rich collection defined by its collaborative chemistry. Songs such as the tender “Damaged” and the soulful first single, “Up Against The Wall,” reverberate with lyrical resonance and sonic ingenuity, the extraordinary natural sound of a gifted band in full flight.

FICTION FAMILY REUNION” was recorded at Switchfoot’s Spot X Studio in Carlsbad, CA over a series of sessions spanning 2010 to early 2012, the lengthy process necessitated by Foreman and Watkins’ always busy schedules. A family in more than just name only, the band was joined on a number of tracks by Nickel Creek fiddle player Sara Watkins and multi-instrumentalist John Mark Painter.

Fiction Family will celebrate the release of “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” with a major North American tour presented by To Write Love on Her Arms, a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and suicide. TWLOHA’s “Heavy & Light Tour” is slated to hit 15 cities across the U.S. and Canada, beginning in mid-January 2013. Full details will be announced shortly – please visit www.twloha.com for more information.

Foreman and Watkins first became fast friends when Switchfoot and Nickel Creek shared the top of the bill at their hometown music festival, San Diego’s famed Street Scene. E-mail addresses were exchanged and the duo began writing songs with little goal other than that of two friends sharing the joy of making music together. Recording proved the obvious next step and in 2009, Fiction Family’s eponymous debut album was released to both popular success and critical fanfare. “(Foreman and Watkins) make a pretty solid team,” noted Paste, continuing, “Foreman is an excellent writer, singer and arranger, and Watkins’ accompaniment on harmony vocals, guitar, bass, keys – even mandolin, ukulele and 12-string – lighten the intensity and add a rich earthiness.” NPR’s Ken Tucker praised “FICTION FAMILY” as “delicate, industrious and intricate,” with Billboard hailing its songs as “richly crafted and intriguingly rendered.” Slant commended “the duo's intricate vocal harmonies…and stately chamber-pop arrangement(s),” while the Washington Post ruled the album to be “a solid set of near-duets from two diverse, accomplished musicians.” “Foreman and Watkins have been able to produce something truly different from what they have done in the past,” proclaimed AbsolutePunk.net, applauding “FICTION FAMILY” as “a collection of finely-crafted, well-thought out tunes (from) one of music's most talented guitarists and one of its most gifted songwriters.”

Newark, NJ-based Rock Ridge Music has signed Fiction Family to a label deal and is now set to release the band’s eagerly anticipated sophomore album (with distribution via ADA). “FICTION FAMILY REUNION” arrives in stores and all DSPs on January 29th.
