John Schlitt - The Christmas Project 2013 Biography and History
Biography ::
John began singing when he was just five years old, performing the leads in recitals and plays in his school. By the time he was 13 he was in the unforgettably titled band "Vinegar Hills Hometown Band Something Different" - being paid $25 bucks as lead singer. It soon became clear that a career in music was in John’s future. He finished college with a degree in civil engineering and promptly set about making a name for himself in the world of rock ‘n roll. His unique, fiery tenor and unbridled passion for singing landed him a gig fronting the secular rock outfit Head East.

John’s eight-year stint with Head East put him on the map in terms of his career – the band was celebrated for its raw energy and swagger. Described by one newspaper as a "brash…cocky, (and) hard-fisted rock band” the five-piece enjoyed a loyal following and a string of hits throughout the ‘70s that helped solidify their fanbase. John’s career seemed set but it all came to a distressing end in 1980 when he was let go by the band. The reason: John had an out-of-control drug and alcohol addiction.

His departure from Head East should have served as a wake-up call but John immediately decided to start another band in an attempt to feed his drug and alcohol addiction. His lack of musical focus and hunger for a constant “fix” led to the band’s quick demise. John, who seemed poised for a long and fruitful career in music, was suddenly an abject failure. He became another casualty of rock ‘n roll decadence, rejected by his peers and left to his own drug-influenced devices.

Little did he realize that God was already hard at work in changing his life. As John battled his inner demons, God began working on his wife Dorla, who met the Lord as John continued his descent into dispair. John’s initial reaction was one of distaste.

“Get outta my face! I don’t need this Jesus stuff; I’m too cool for Jesus. I’ll tell ya, I’ll become a Christian when I’m rich, famous, done everything, too old to have any fun, and then I’ll do it just… hmmm….. to be safe.”

Dorla’s new found faith upset John but it did impress him. "She was so happy all the time; I was like totally miserable. One day I said 'What makes you so happy?' And she goes, 'I'm glad you asked.' And I just go 'Oh, man - here it comes.'"

John fought the Holy Spirit’s beckoning every step of the way. In his mind, suicide was the only way out of the downward spiral that had so engulfed his life. A quick and easy overdose of pills was the method of choice.

But Dorla’s persistent prayer and love led to John’s spiritual awakening.

One evening, just prior to his planned demise, John agreed to accompany Dorla to see their pastor. “I only went along so my wife would be able to say ‘he tried’ after I was gone," said John.

But God wasn’t about to let John end things. That evening, "I… got hit with a boldness about Jesus that I've never known before," he recalls in awe. "I got saved that night, and it was a new beginning for me. I didn't feel that burden of guilt anymore, and I had a new chance. Although I still had all my debts from all my drug stupidity, I knew that God and I were gonna be able - you know, we'd take care of it. And sure enough, it was (taken care of), step by step - God's way."

John resolved to live for God and even forsake music, if that was what God ordered. He ended up looking for practical work to support his family, starting from scratch. "That was actually scary," he admits, realizing how hard it was to fit into a regular day job after so many years of being on the road doing his own thing. "I finally got a job sweeping the floor at a tool and die factory and was very happy about it. Then in God's plan, step by step, I got increased - I finally worked as a mining engineer for a mining construction company and ended up being their cost and scheduling engineer."

If you asked John back then if he’d have anything to do with music again, he would have given you a firm “no”. His priorities had shifted – God and his family came first. And of course, he wanted nothing to do with the drug scene ever again.

But God wasn’t done with him musically. In fact, it turned out that John’s days in Head East were a precursor to something greater. Five years after firmly putting music behind him, God called John back to fronting the Christian rock band Petra.

John recalls those exciting days. "We (John and Bob Hartman) have a mutual friend who is a music critic for Christian music, and someone had sent a tape that I had sang on for a bunch of kids in Illinois; it was just a real dinky tape, but the manager was very, very aggressive and he sent copies of this tape all over the industry. This man got one, and Bob was talking to him and he says, "Is there anything I can do to help you, Bob?"

In turn Bob asked his friend to find a singer for Petra. His pal mentioned Schlitt and produced the demo tape that had John wailing on it.

"So he gave the number, and once he started investigating it, the number by that time had been changed, it no longer worked… but he got interested and started investigating, trying to find me. He finally found my brother…who was mentioned on the first Head East album, and went searching through the listings, the telephone listings in Illinois and found him. He called him up and asked if he'd have me call him. I did and that's how he found me!"

It all seemed too easy. "Bob Hartman calls me up and asks, 'Would you consider singing for Petra?' I say, 'You gotta be kidding me! I haven't sung for five years.'"

"All I wanna know is if you're still a Christian.”

"'I'm a heavy-duty Christian.”

"Good. Let's talk."

John auditioned for the part and sang "Altar Ego,” a song that eventually appeared on Petra’s 1986's album Back to the Street. "There was one high part in it that I hit, and he (Bob) goes 'Where did that come from?!' I said, 'Oh, it's no big deal.’ I could see his eyes just clicking, going 'Yeah - got the range, got the….. this is good, this is good!' And it was funny! I felt like it had worked out well."
John Schlitt officially joined Petra in 1986, bringing with him his amazing vocal range and abilities that made him a legend with Head East. Except this time, his mind was no longer blown on drugs and alcohol – he was clean, focused, and armed with a powerful message: God made us to be winners - Jesus Christ is alive and through Him we are to be victorious in His perfect plan for us.

And that’s how it’s been with John ever since. Twenty years later and four Grammy awards on his shelf, sixteen Petra albums, one II Guys from Petra album, and three solo albums recorded - millions of which have sold all over the world - John is a man who lives for Jesus and makes no bones about his faith.

"The only thing I can do is be the best Christian artist I can be, to be the boldest Christian artist I can be,” he says. "I will always be able to look anyone in the face who wants to sit and say 'So you're a Christian?' and I'll say 'You darn right I am; just listen to my music, listen to what I have to say, listen to the interviews.' There's no doubt about where I stand."

While John is arguably one of the most powerful vocalists around, his mightiest cry is the cry of his heart. Whether onstage or up close and personal, John’s voice is one of a truly changed soul. And his music is and always will be a reflection of God’s love and redeeming power.

Kari Jobe - Acoustic Tribute to Kari Jobe (2013) Biography and History
Biography ::
Kari Jobe grew up knowing God was drawing her toward worship. “I remember hearing a worship song that applied perfectly to a family that I knew, and I knew that I wanted to write songs like that, for people who are hurting, songs that people make their own prayer to the Lord when they can’t find words of their own.”

A featured worship leader on Gateway Worship projects, Living for You and Wake Up ...the World, Kari released her self-titled debut album through Gateway Create Publishing and Integrity Music on February 10, 2009. Produced by Ed Cash, the album contains a collection of worship pop/folk songs written by Kari Jobe as well as co-writes with worship leaders/songwritersChris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, Mia Fieldes, Ed Cash and Klaus Kuehn.

The album, Kari Jobe, features new versions of “Revelation Song,” “No Sweeter Name” and “My Beloved,” in addition to new songs of worship taken from Kari’s life and journals. She explains one of her favorites, the deeply personal “You Are for Me,” saying, “This song is gut-wrenching for me. There are times you are so broken that all you can do is sing over yourself with words like, ‘God is for me.’ But I believe it is one song that people can use to remember that God is for us, so who can be against us.” Songs of intimate musings are balanced by songs of joy and praise. The buoyant “Everyone Needs a Little” emanates with expressions of love, joy and hope, while “I’m Singing” conveys a simple happiness of heart in vocal praise to God.

“This album is about hope and life; it’s about lifting the broken off the floor and singing love over them,” says Kari. “The songs create intimate moments and outward shouting, and it’s my hope that these songs find the broken and lift them to a place of praise to God for what He’s done.”

Since he first began writing and performing in 2006, Caleb has shown himself to be very skilled in creating contagious, upbeat Christian acoustic/pop/rock music with loveable melodies and lyrics that pull on your heartstrings.

In 2008, Caleb released his first album, Acoustical, which was recorded in the comfort of his own bedroom. Quickly after releasing that album, he assembled a three-piece band and started touring. Two years later, Caleb released The Wake Up EP, graduated from Western Oregon University, and resumed with his writing, recording, and touring. Hillsong Young & Free - We Are Young & Free 2013 Biography and History
History ::
Tha album was announced in an official page of the band by a series of photos. On March 22, during the Colour Conference, the release date was set to be October 2013. On April 10th, the band started the publicity for the album recording night, by posting pictures about the event on Facebook, Twitter and other social networks.

Hillsong Church's popularity in Christian praise and worship music stems from the inauguration of the Hillsong Conference in the late 1980s and the first publication of choruses written by Hills CLC members, especially Darlene Zschech. Their first live worship CD The Power of Your Love was released in 1992. Since then, live praise and worship albums have been produced each year. Other music series include the Worship series, United, Youth Alive, Hillsong Kids and Instrumental series. They have also released two Christmas albums and several compilation albums.

Geoff Bullock's departure ::
Geoff Bullock, the worship pastor before Zschech, resigned from Hillsong partly because of their phenomenal success. He states:

People have said that Hillsong (conference) 95 was my highest moment - the heights from which I fell. Yet if someone asked me what was the worst experience of my whole ministry career it would be Hillsong (conference) 95, because I felt so out of my depth.

I kept thinking, 'I don't know what I'm doing here, I'm unable to be the person that I need to be'. I just can't be Mr Charisma and Mr Excited. That's not me. I'm a quiet, introspective, melancholic type of guy. I struggled throughout the week trying to lead the worship, but feeling very much that I was failing. I really fell apart emotionally within a month of the conference ending.
My face was on all the posters, I was writing songs which everyone was singing, but inside I was asking myself 'Why am I always struggling? Why can't I just rise up in faith and be the man of God that everybody else says I should be, that this movement says I should be?
—Geoff Bullock, reality.org.nz

Geoff Bullock has released a recent album with new songs and a few of his old songs re-written. He spoke with David Adams and Lloyd Harkness at Sight Magazine in an interview on the 13th of August, 2004 "I feel tremendously responsible that I led them [Hillsong Church] along the garden path of being so incredibly enthusiastic and incredibly faithful that eventually I sentenced them to disappointment because I was trying to fulfill something that I could never achieve..."

Popularity ::
Hillsong music is accepted and sung in many Christian churches worldwide. Some Hillsong songs have distinct gospel influences (see Gospel music and Urban contemporary gospel) and this has probably contributed to its acceptance. Hillsong Music titles regularly feature in the top 25 of most songs sung in all reporting countries recorded through CCLI.

People Just Like Us was the first ever Christian album to go Gold in Australia as well as the first to go Platinum. To date, all Hillsong live worship albums have achieved Gold status in Australia. In 1996, Hillsong Music reached international prominence with the release of Shout to the Lord produced by Integrity Music. This was Integrity Music's first live worship album featuring a female worship leader - Darlene Zschech.

The 2004 Hillsong live worship album For All You've Done, debuted at #1 on the Australian Record Industry Association album charts. This is the first time an album of Contemporary Christian music has topped the album charts in Australia. There was some controversy about this outcome as almost all of the albums were sold at Hillsong's annual conference held in early July. The Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) have defended the outcome noting that the album sold more copies than any other record on sale in Australia that week.

Awards ::
Hillsong Music Australia has been accredited with over 50 gold and platinum sales awards achieved worldwide. Hillsong Music has also achieved many international awards;

* The album Shout to the Lord was nominated for the 1997 Dove Awards 'Praise & Worship Album of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.
* The song Shout to the Lord written by Darlene Zschech was nominated for the 1998 Dove Awards 'Song of the Year' category at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.
* By Your Side received a nomination for the 2001 Dove Awards 'Praise & Worship Album of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.
* In 1999, Darlene received the International Impact of the Year Award from the American Gospel Music Association in Nashville, USA.
* You Are My World received a nomination for the 2002 Dove Awards 'Praise & Worship Album of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.
* Blessed also received a nomination for the Dove Awards 'Praise & Worship Album of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.

* The song Mighty to Save written by Ben Fielding and Reuben Morgan received the 2009 Dove Awards 'Worship Song of the Year' at the Gospel Music Awards in Nashville, USA.

Worship leaders ::
Former worship pastor Darlene Zschech (1995-2007) is perhaps the most well-known worship leader in Hillsong. She is the composer of the famous worship song "Shout to the Lord". Zschech became worship pastor after Geoff Bullock resigned. Bullock had composed most of Hillsong's early songs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Russell Fragar, former music director, played a large part in producing early Hillsong albums until leaving Hillsong Church for Virginia, USA in 2001. Other prominent worship leaders include Reuben Morgan, who rose to fame for his song I Give You My Heart and Marty Sampson who was integral in the success of early Hillsong United albums. Recently Joel Houston, son of Brian and Bobbie Houston, has become one of the Hillsong worship leaders and song writers and has also initiated Hillsong's I-Heart Revolution.

Currently the worship pastor of Hillsong is Reuben Morgan and Joel Houston serves as Creative Director, while Darlene Zschech is a Senior Worship Leader at Hillsong Church and tours throughout the globe with the Hillsong team, whilst still hosting the Creative Stream at Hillsong Conference. The Hillsong UNITED team also tours the globe reaching others with the music that comes from the very heart of Hillsong Church.

Darlene Zschech explained Hillsong's stance in her book Extravagant Worship. She wrote the Hillsong team prayer "Father, let them quickly get their eyes off of us. We just want to point them to you, God, because you are the Author of truth. You are the only One who is to be praised."

Albums ::
Early albums were released solely on cassette and CD. Video recordings of the live albums have also been made for VHS since the second album in 1993, and additionally for DVD since 2000, with increasing additional content such as documentaries and extra songs. The Hillsong United series CDs have included an additional free part-length DVD since 2004. Several music books have also been published. Including all the series (LIVE, UNITED, Kids, Kids Pre-School, Chapel, Español, Youth Term, Youth Alive, Worship, Compilation, Instrumental, Christmas, Preview, KIEV, LONDON) and other special releases (Like The 1st Album, Or Other special recordings) they have more than 125 albums, in 15 series.

Maranatha! Praise Band - Top 10 Praise Band 2013 Biography and History
History ::
Maranatha! Music has become synonymous with Christian music today. The label is a pioneer in praise and worship music publishing. Each year, Maranatha! is dedicated to introducing new songs and promoting its classics to the church through song publishing, music in stores and church leadership training. Maranatha! Music shepherds the “Jesus Music” of today by serving the church with the song of faith. Best known for the Praise Series, Praise Band Series, and Top 25 Series; Maranatha! Music has sold more than 30 million records worldwide.

THE EARLY DAYS
Maranatha! Music was founded in 1971 by Chuck Smith Sr. of Calvary Chapel to promote the “Jesus Music” his young hippie followers were writing and singing up and down the California coast. In the early years, Maranatha! Music signed artists because of their passionate profession of faith through music. These songs became the seminal calling card of the worship music genre of that time and belonged to the Maranatha! song catalog. Back then, these songs were on the fringe of what the established church felt was appropriate for church music but they were being sung by millions of young people around the world.

MARANATHA! MUSIC – THE SONG PUBLISHER
Today, Maranatha! has become the most recognized and trusted name in churches across the nation and around the world. Those ‘70’s songs, considered edgy and trend-setting back then, are now some of the most beloved worship songs from the last three decades.

The Maranatha! Music legacy is founded on the label’s rich history of expanding their song catalog by discovering and launching well-crafted new songs of faith. Even up through today, powerful worship that resonates with worshippers worldwide from Maranatha! is being catapulted into the church’s enduring worship repertoire as part of their weekly service offerings.

As a result, the Maranatha! Music “Dove” is one of the most widely recognized brands in the world. Every week, multiple millions of Christians see the Maranatha! name on overheads and bulletins as they sing these precious songs.

MARANATHA! MUSIC – THE MUSIC LABEL MARANATHA! MUSIC – THE MUSIC LABEL
Maranatha! Music reaches out beyond the church by selling CDs and DVDs featuring these songs in retail outlets like Family Christian Stores, Lifeway Stores, Walmart and Target stores, and online everywhere to the faith-based market. Believers become equipped to take their corporate worship experience from the pulpit to the home front by incorporating these worship resources into their personal daily devotions and meditations.

MARANATHA! MUSIC – THE TRAINING & TEACHING RESOURCE
In 2008, Maranatha! Music will reactivate their participation in live arena and stadium events held across the nation through new partnerships with internationally recognized faith-based movements.

In the early 90’s, Maranatha! Music was the only organization to offer workshops across the nation for church leaders from all denominations to come and gain depth and greater accessibility to Maranatha!’s song catalog through exclusive training and education on the worship movement. These well-attended conferences were called Worship Leader Workshops. These workshops were supported by music companies and service organizations such as Roland Corporation, Yamaha, Taylor Guitars, Peavey, and many others.

Today, the 120,000 church “gate-keepers”, who attended these workshops now look to Maranatha! Music as the leading source of worship products and services. The goodwill developed over the years has only grown stronger, as the roots of Maranatha’s reputation have grown deeper with local church leadership. Workshop programs are currently being developed for the 2009 season.

MARANATHA! MUSIC – THE ‘SHEPHERD’ OF SONGS
As a result, unlike any other brand in the world, Maranatha! Music has become synonymous with Christian music today. Each year, the label is dedicated to introducing new songs and promoting its classics to the church through song publishing, music in stores and church leadership training. Maranatha! Music will continue to shepherd the “Jesus Music” of today by serving the church with the song of faith.

"I love making music you can move and groove to," she says, "but at the same time, as Christian artists we have a responsibility to speak the truth of the finished work of Christ in love."

A singer of incredible grace, power and control as well as a gifted songwriter, Dara has put together with Dove Award-winning producer Ian Eskelin a debut CD, You Got My Attention, as fresh and vibrant as any in recent years. Just 25, she has forged a sound rooted in the ’70s Motown, funk and soul her parents loved and filtered through a thoroughly contemporary urban pop lens.

Its first single, “Suitcases,” is a beat-driven track with an alternately intimate and soaring vocal celebrating true release from "your burdens, heavy like gravity."

"I want to paint a picture of God's complete restorative love and how through Christ we can experience true freedom," she says. "My parents and I minister together as a family and during one service my dad said, ‘You can’t run when you’re holding suitcases.’ I’ll never forget it. This song is my encouragement to us all to let go of the baggage of the past.”

“Suitcases” provides a first glimpse into an album that displays a range of influences and a lyrical and melodic flair rare in a young artist. You Got My Attention ranges from the soft intimacy of “Had To Be You” to the soaring finale of “Unreachable,” from the classic ‘70s feel of “So Good To Me” to the symphonic resonance of the album’s closer, “Home.”

“There are tracks like ‘You Got My Attention’ and ‘Nothin’ You Won’t Do’ that express my love of Motown and funk,” says Dara, and there is “What Love Looks Like,” a warm and lovely excursion into the heart of love, with acoustic instrumentation and scintillating harmonies. Harmonies soar again in “Free,” which celebrates the strength and liberation possible in God’s love, while “Yours Forever” showcases the sheer vocal expressiveness Dara possesses.

She has found the perfect studio partner in producer Eskelin. “Ian knows the filter everything needs to go through,” she says. “It has to be soulful and reflect my love for R&B but still be contemporary. It’s about taking the listener on an interesting journey without wandering too far off the road.”

Within those parameters, Dara has found just the right setting for her vision.

“My message, my purpose,” she says, “is to express the heart of God for His kids. Then, I want the record to reflect what I want the live show experience to be like. We’ll dance, we’ll groove, we’ll have fun.

Though her message is undiluted, her touch is light and the music celebratory—and universal.

“I wanted the accessibility that great Motown music had,” she says. “That and the great 70s soul and R&B music transcended barriers. It was never about one group or one audience. It just spoke to people.”

The lessons of a lifetime spent combining music and ministry has enabled Dara to do craft a highly individual style as compellingly as anyone on the present scene.

Dara grew up outside Fort Worth, Texas, in a family that encouraged her love for music and for the Lord from her earliest days. She was just 13 when she began leading worship and singing in church. She credits The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill with "helping me discover who I wanted to be as an artist. I remember talking to my mom and dad about how she was quoting scripture in her lyrics in such a unique way. I just loved it. Not long after that, I started playing guitar and diving into writing for myself."

Influenced as well by contemporaries like Adele, Natasha Bedingfield, Ray LaMontagne, John Legend and Marc Broussard, she has honed a sound that captures the joy and exuberance of being swept up in God's love. It is an approach she comes by honestly.

"I grew up singing, dancing and acting, and it's been in the church world," she says. "Music has always equaled ministry to me. Ministering to the broken, unloved and discouraged and ultimately showing people God's better way is what's in my heart. It's how I'm wired.”

While her technical skill shines through, it is her individuality that shines through.“I did take voice lessons,” she says, “but I did not go to school for music. Part of the story is not being polished and perfectly educated. My records represent my personal journey through music.”

In school, Dara was part of a singing group that traveled widely, performing everywhere from churches to conferences to the Superdome. When she graduated at 18, she “dove into music and ministry. It’s what I felt like I was supposed to do.” Discovered by label/publishing executive Susan Riley, she earned a publishing deal before landing her recording contract. Throughout, she has never compromised the message she expresses in music.

“As an artist and a Christian my responsibility is not to give half the pie. When we represent something, it’s the whole, complete message of redemption.” The sheer exuberance of her music assures her effectiveness in carrying that message. “I’m hearing from people that it’s a brand new sound, that it’s refreshing,” she says. “It makes me feel in my heart like I’m hitting the mark. I feel like we have the right people involved, like it’s the right mix and that we’re headed in the right direction.”

Meredith Andrews - Behold The Savior (2013) Biography and History
Biography ::
At its very essence worship is an invitation. Whether it’s a church congregation on a Sunday morning or a solitary soul reaching up to God in a moment of personal praise, worship is inviting God’s presence into our lives so we can celebrate His glory. That’s why “The Invitation” is such a fitting title for singer/songwriter Meredith Andrews debut on Word Records.

Beneath her youthful exterior and fresh-faced exuberance, Andrews is a focused artist who knows exactly what she wants to say. She creates music that serves as a personal conduit for those seeking to worship God, and she also wants to remind others of God’s desire to reach them. “God is extending an invitation to you, to you personally, calling you by name,” she says. “He knows where you’ve been and he knows your background. He knows your family situation. He knows the things you struggle with, but he’s calling you by name and he’s inviting you to come in and to meet with him and to know him.”

Andrews shares that theme on her debut album with a well-crafted set of songs that are musically inventive and lyrically challenging. It’s a potent combination that is garnering Andrews enthusiastic support. Even before “The Invitation” hit store shelves, Andrews was tapped to open Aaron Shust’s spring tour. In Billboard magazine’s yearly “Faces to Watch” feature, she was singled out as Christian music’s most promising new artist.

Andrews felt the call into music ministry very early in life. Growing up in Wilson, NC, she started singing in church when she was only six-years-old. “I remember the first song I ever sang in church was ‘I Love You Lord,’” she recalls. “Then me and my mom would go around to other churches in our area and sing Southern Gospel music.”

Andrews’ childhood love of music matured into a desire to lead worship. She learned to play piano, began writing songs and during her high school years, she began leading worship at her church. On Saturday nights, young people from all over the area would converge. “That youth group thing we had on Saturday nights was called the Potters House and it was one of the most influential things in my life,” she says. “I learned what it really means to worship the Lord. I’ll never forget that time in my life. It was just so powerful. All the kids that would come were just so hungry for the Lord and we would worship for an hour and then my youth pastor would speak and then we’d worship for another hour or more. I remember there would be nights that the power of the Lord was so strong that I’d be under my keyboard playing because I just couldn’t stand. I couldn’t stand anymore, just being so humbled and in the presence of the Lord. It was powerful and I will never forget that.”

Andrews attended Liberty University where she majored in family and child development, and planned on working in an orphanage after graduation. She was born an only child, but her parents provided homes for many foster children. “We had about 20 kids come through our home in a period of about 10 years,” she recalls. “We ended up adopting three of the boys. They are my brothers now. I forget they are adopted.”

Seeing the impact her parents and their faith had on other children was an inspiration to Meredith and she had planned on a life of service, working to help children. However, during her junior year at Liberty, God revealed His plan for her life. “It was an amazing time of worship,” Andrews says. “Looking out at the student body with their hands in the air, you could tell that the presence of the Lord was so sweet in that place. It was like the Lord just dropped something into my spirit saying ‘This is it. This is it! This is what I called you to do.’ I remember thinking, ‘This is the thing that makes me feel most alive.’ It is also the thing that I feel like the Lord takes the most delight in and I feel closest to him when I’m doing it. That doesn’t necessarily mean being in an arena leading worship, it also means when I’m behind closed doors. Private worship must precede public worship. If what I’m doing on stage isn’t first birthed behind closed doors, then it’s inauthentic. I can’t take people where I haven’t been with the Lord.”

While leading worship at Liberty, a pastor from Chicago’s 12,000 member Harvest Bible Chapel heard her and recruited Andrews to join his worship team. “I went up there in April 2005, which was a month before I graduated from Liberty,” Andrews recalls. “They let me sing with the worship team and I just remember thinking this is a place where I can really grow and that night, they offered me a job.”

Just as God led Andrews to Liberty University then on to Harvest Bible Chapel, he opened doors in Nashville that led her to sign with Word Records. “I wasn’t really looking for a record deal. It just fell in my lap,” says Andrews. “I’m so humbled by it all. It’s obvious that it’s the Lord’s hand and not my own.”

Andrews wrote or co-wrote every song on “The Invitation.” Produced by Jason Ingram, the project not only showcases Andrews’ skills as a songwriter, but her engaging vocals as well. She has a clear, pure voice that draws the listener into her songs and points them to the heavenly father. The opening track, “You Invite Me In,” reminds us all that God’s arms are always open to us. It’s a message that also resonates powerfully on the stunning ballad “You’re Not Alone.”

“Deeper” is another compelling ballad that finds Andrews longing to delve more completely into a relationship with God. In a voice that is hauntingly vulnerable, she shares her heart in a poignant lyric that other believers will readily relate to on an intimate level. It’s that ability to be so transparent in her writing and her delivery of these songs that invites others in.

“When we were in the studio recording, I remember listening to Jacob, my fiancé,’ playing piano on ‘The River’ and there was the element about God inviting us in there in that song as well as ‘Invite Me In’ and ‘Lift Up Your Head.’ That theme runs through all of the songs, but as he was playing this song and I was sitting at this table, all of a sudden it just hit me, ‘The Invitation!’ That’s what the album should be called!”

Though Andrews’ music ministry is poised to impact a national audience with the release of “The Invitation,” she continues serve where she feels God has planted her—leading worship at Harvest Bible Chapel. Additionally, her desire to help underprivileged children has never waned and she’s established Meredith Andrews Ministries to aid orphans and children in need.
Meredith Andrews has seen the impact music can have on people’s lives, but it’s not her agenda she wants to share. Her songs are laced with scripture because of her passion for sharing the word of God. “I never want to write songs just to write songs. I always want them to be about conveying the heart of God to people, whether they are people who walk with the Lord or people who don’t walk with the Lord,” she says. “I think the best way to do that is to do it through His word. I always want my songs to be infused with the word of God because if it’s my words, it’s null and void. What do I have to say to people that is going to change their lives? Nothing! But if it comes from the Lord, it’s that’s what’s going to change them.”
